i was out shopping the monday before christmas when i slipped on the ice, after a very slow journey to hospital, due to weather conditions,it eventally turned out to be a double fracture to my ankle.with sevral days in hospital a plaster cast and a pair of crutches, iwas finally home on wednesday evening, just in time for christmas(thankfully).
so this means six weeks of no allotment !i am going to be completly lost, for even though the weather is bad and there is not much to do,istill like going down and visiting my plots.
its gonna be a long six weeks :-[
Oh you poor thing, hope its not too painful.
You'll just have to sit & read all those lovely catalogues
start a few seeds off, give you something to do , hope your ankle's not bothering you too much, I can't get to the plot while it's so icy so I've started some mammoth red onion seed off , fingers crossed you heal quickly ;D
poppymole itsok while i am taking the painkillers,oh yes have read the seed catalogues and am now on back issues of gardeners world and kitchen garden
great idea for the seed sowing manicscousers but i cant do any wieghtbearing on the leg for a few weeks, good luck with those red onion seeds hopefully they will germinate
st albans, herts? so does the ankle, eh? (sorry couldn't resist) ;D ;D ;D
as the manics said, get some seed going, get some volunteers to help with any heavy work, 6 weeks will soon pass!!
oh you poor thing, its been horrendous down here on sunday alone we had 53 people attend a and e with broken bones alone, and that was just the start of it!!!
hope you can find some sanity in the 6 weeks of enforced rest and daytime tv ;D
Heart felt condolences! I broke mine in march 07 tripping over the cat on the stairs so know what you are going through. it was a busier time of year with lots of things having to go in but I found by letting the lotty people know that things might get a bit neglected and asking for help for the most urgent planting everything put in late soon caught up and in some cases benifited from being put in later. not doing anything apart from picking and tidying at the moment so stop worrying and put your energy in to getting well
marg
Sorry to hear about your ankle. Let's hope the next 6 weeks pass quickly for you. Take care.
Sorry to hear about your ankle. At least it isn't spring or summer!
The ice has been terrible here over the last couple of days. We have had quite a bit of snow and it has all started to thaw and has refrozen. Last night our neighbours were having to put carpet tiles under their car wheels to get their car into their drive after getting half way down the road and getting stuck. Also a car hit another one at the end of the road and drove off! This was after midnight. We heard the 'crunch' and the car alarm and then saw the car driving down the road with the lights switched off. To avoid anyone seeing their number plate I guess!
oh bad luck about the ankle! Hope you can make the most of the rest, and then you'll really appreciate being up and about again.
Get well soon!
Sorry to hear about your ankle and hope it is not too painful.
Get well soon
Such bad luck :(........Hope you heal quickly :)
Ouch!
Hope you are soon up and about - and make sure you get physio on it after the plaster comes off, it makes a huge difference in the long term
Take care

thankyou for all your great posts, iam hoping the six weeks soon passesand i will be back down on the plot.
thanks again for all of your postings
and i wish you all a safe and happy new year
My genuine sympathy--I ruptered my Achilles`tendon early in 2008-yep non weight bearing for three weeks and about six weeks in plaster/support boot in all.
It does pass and you should be about again just in time for some early sowing :)
:-* Get well soon. I like the way the pain and general inconvenience is rendered insignificant by the missing of the plot!!!
GWS. ;D ;D ;D
