I know it's quite close to Christmas ;D and we already have a few swaps on the go, but does anyone fancy a tomato seed swap.
I'm thinking, if there is enough interest, of doing a Jeannie style one. I reckon there is time to organise and swap seeds in time for sowing early on. Possibly chillies too if its not too complicated.
If you want to join in, you will need a minimum of 10 seeds of one variety or ten seeds x however many varieties, a few multiples of same variety are ok, but not too many or the most common types.
These you send off to me. Packets go into a big pot for a bit of a jiggle then you receive different varieties back to the equivalent packs you sent in.
If you are interested post or pm. I'll write up some more info if enough people want to have a go.
I'm in
:)
Hi, just an idea...maybe don't do your swaps till I can get a parcel over to you, I have quite a few spares ,some rarely known ones that I can chip in. I will polybag then in tens and ship em straight to you if you wish. Can you give me till after the New Year celebrations and I can get chance to get to them for you.
I don't want anthing in return just happy to give them a good home.
If you interested please PM your address to me and good luck with your swapsies.
XX Jeannine

Jeannine, what a wonderful and generous offer, thank you so much, it is much appreciated :) :) :). Would it be best to share them out as Jeannine gifts?
I can't see anything being finalised before the New Year, so would be very happy to wait, that's assuming there is enough interest ;D

Ok everyone, what you will need to do;
Pack your tomato/chilli seeds in packs containing ten seeds,
Clearly label each pack with the variety,
Whether home saved (bagged or not if toms, definitely isolated if chillies) or shop bought
Date Harvested if saved, use by date if bought
Your A4A username (just so if I drop the lot I know who sent what)
Send as many packets as you like, you'll get the same number back.
Post your seeds to me along with a suitably strong and large enough stamped addressed envelope, you may need a large stamp.
Try and keep varieties interesting, don't send the most common types, send what you might have liked to have received. Best not to send too many of one type, from what I understand, the more varieties = the better the swap.
If you have extra seeds that you don't want swaps for, they can be included and shared out with the other participants, but they must be clearly marked SPARES.
I will pm everyone with my address shortly
Hope this all makes sense, any questions ask away :)
And were off ;D Can you tell Im over excited by this swap I just LOVE tomatoes hence my user name Greensausage ;D
Will get mine off in the post just as soon as I receive your PM with your address.
Fingers crossed for some good and interesting seeds in return ;D
Do you want me to join in... I can do over 50 varieties of toms... but would love some green sausage... ::)
You are more than welcome to join in Saddad. I've got some Green Sausage toms I can add to your swaps, grew some last year :)

I sent my daughter to the post office !!!
;D
I've managed to get my seeds from the allotment, after taking a blowtorch to a frozen-up lock. Hopefully they'll be in the post tomorrow.
Will try to get mine out tomorrow.... though we haven't seen a postie for a while :-(
chrisc
Posted my chillies today.
Thanks Mpdjulie, yours is the first package received ;D
Seed packets placed in the tombola, awaiting some more ;D
My packages are on their way..... :)
Arrived, envelopes from Squash64 and Greensausage ;D
Incompetance and meteorology have combined to ensure that mine will not get into the post until Monday....
BTW, I only had 5 Korol Gigantov that I could let go, but you will be getting a lot of spare Costoluto Fiorentino....
chrisc
Mine have finally gone out in the post ;D
Mine won't be going out till Monday either. My wife fell and badly bruised her shoulder on Wednesday, then skidded on black ice and mashed the car up on Friday. To top it all, I then slipped on some steps in town and ended up with a badly bruised pelvis. Right now I'm struggling to get in and out of a chair.

Robert, wishing you both a speedy recovery, an extra hug can work wonders :)
Don't rush, in your own time.
Thanks. We'll get there. They've had to stop gritting everywhere except major roads, and it's so treacherous that while Namissa was waiting around after her car smash, three more vehicles went off the road at the same spot.
Sounds awful and lucky it was not worse. Best wishes to Namissa.
Mine are going on the post this wednesday, sorry but i havenot any chance to do it earlier. It will arrive in about 5 days(working days).
That will be just fine Rudd, I'll still have plenty of time to get them sent back out for sowing. A couple of people have contacted me to say there has been a delay and will be posting shortly, I also think the weather is not helping much either.
I'm hoping yours and Jeannine's will be arriving about the same time. Hopefully everyones will have arrived by then, as they do not have as far to travel. So we will be good to go ;D
I won't wait for anyone who has not sent or contacted me. Hope this is OK with everyone?
hi jayb

None today, no post cos of the snow :(
Arrived yesterday; Robert-Brenchley, Plot51a and DavidW.
Just over halfway ;D
Does anyone fancy a bit of a game?
The old guess the number of different varieties received for toms and for chillies game ;D Extra packet of seeds from me for the winner/s! ;D
Hi I have just posted a parcel from Canada for you all to share..have fun XX Jeannine
Parcel is on his way to you.I have also put some pepers in the package.
I'll guess 32 for toms and 26 for chillies
:)
mpdjulie
up..up..up.. ;)
XX Jeannine
I say 74 toms and 40 chillis
200 toms and 100 chillis
Thanks Jeannine and Rudd, I'll post when they arrive.
Philips66, yours arrived on Saturday
mpdjulie, you are welcome to keep your guess, but as others have the advantage (or is it a red herring) of Jeannine's advice, post again if you want :)
hey, glad to hear the seeds made it to you, through all that snow.
as for a guess i would say-
85 tomatoes and 46 chillies
I'll keep to my original guess, even though it is obviously way too low. I think I'll stick to the one guess rule to be fair.
:D
120 tomatoes and 80 chillis
I would say 170 tomatoes and 60 chillies
My guess is 107 tomatoes 53 chillies ;D
Arghh... forgot to send the SAE :(..... will try to remember to bring it in (it's on the kitchen table at home) tomorrow...
chrisc
60 toms, 40 chillis?
Interesting guesses, it's fun for me to watch as I've got a rough idea of the total, but not a clue who will win. There are currently two who are closest, but for how long ;D
Cheers Chris, much appreciated.
Arrived today, seeds from Reddyreddy and Rudd, thanks.
If you haven't posted your seeds, its time you did ;D
58 toms
35 chillis
How's the swap going Jayb ?
:)
Its going well, waiting for a couple of seeds to arrive.
Oooh and the ones Jeannine's posted, so not long now ;D
Hows things coming along? I am at bursting point with anticipation ;D
I feel like a little school girl with her socks falling down and hopping from foot to foot in anticipation ;D
;D nearly there folks, just waiting for one thing and then they are in the post.
Have they been posted yet? - I can't wait to see what I get ;D :D ;D
Thanks for organising this and for everyone else who took part as well
I've been waiting for a package, but suspect it may be lost :'( Although I'm keeping fingers crossed it will just be very late.
So rather than hold the swap up, as some are getting very itchy fingers ;D I'll start sorting and packing later on today and hopefully all will be posted tomorrow. I'll post to confirm though and who was closest with guess how many.
ooh i hope its not jeanines

ooh i hope its not jeanines
I hope so too as it was so kind of her to send it all that way, would be a real shame if it was lost :'(
Unfortunately we fear it may have gone astray.
I totally agree, Jeannine is tops :)
I hope it is just a case of slow international post and if/when it arrives I will either divide and send on or as Jeannine has suggested arrange a round robin.
Hi Guys, panic not!! I have just packed up another pile of seeds. I am sending two seed catalogues which it says on the envelope...please read each page carefully..right to the end!!! Guessing as I have closed it but there may be 40 types. Not a lot in most as I cleared out a lot in the first posting but enough. There is also a decent sized packet of mixed tomato seeds. I repackaged all my collection a few weeks ago in new bags ,I did on a flannel sheet on the table. After I finished I picked up the escapees and bagged them, they are all heritage, all colours and shapes, some quite rare so I have sent them on to you just for a bit of fun, thought you might be brave enough to have a go and show us later.
Anyway this envelope is going off first thing tomorrow, should be about a week. I don't expect any trouble as it does not say seeds on it which the first one did.
Have fun with your swapsies
XX Jeannine
PS I went to a garden center today to find some unusual ones but they only had the small sized packets, and it not worth getting them. I am going to the company who makes them later this week as it is in Vancouver. I shall send some seeds over to someone then maybe for a swap or something.
It is West Coast Seeds if anyone wants to look it up.
I shall be picking up Tyee spinach for the couple of folks that wanted it also Shasta Cauliflower which grows well in the UK.
Take care all. I am so jealous of your large lotties I could swear.. oh eck...knickers!!!
XX Jeannine
Thank you Jeannine, what a shining star you are :), your generosity is faultless.
Well wow, took me longer than I thought :o but all done Yaaay and I'll be off to the PO a little later today.
A big thank you to everyone taking part and particularly those who sent spare seeds, very generous. I've bagged the spares into smaller lots and you all have a selection. I have some of the more common seeds left over, which will be add to a swap and I'm also hoping some will go to a local school.
Thanks all
Thanks Jayb for all your hard work, it is appreciated by us all. Looking forward to getting our parcels ;D
Yes a very very big thank you Jayb. Love the surprise element in all this too ;D ;D ;D
Right, as I almost forgot and had to re-open the envelopes :-[
Who was closest with the numbers game. 2 winners, first with the tomatoes, Philips 66; and Chriscross for the chillies!
Well done both.
so at 60/40 I wasn't too far off! Looking forward to it x
An excellent guess and closer than I would have been. You were so close with the chillies ;D along with Lottiedolly, I even checked it 3 times!
Tomatoes 92
Chillies 37
Thank you for taking the time to organise the swapsie ;D
I look forward to them arriving in the post :)

The envelope arrived and oooh how exciting the contents are, Emma you are a star! thank you xx
Thank you Emma and everyone-what a lovely selection-have been away so they were waiting when I got back!!
Well would you believe...
I have just had a parcel delivered and amazed to find it the is package that I sent to you lot weeks ago!!
Judging from the various notices attached it hadn't even left Canada(everything was in dual language) and where the address should be was just a series of black weak smudges. My return address was OK as John had stuck a printed addy label on it but when he addressed it he must have used a pen that was not permanent and as the paper was glossy I guess it just rubbed off..well I guess I should be grateful that he stuck the printed Christmas label on.
So the seeds were not lost or seized just been off on a trip.
Well anyway thought you would all like to know, I was concerned that they had been grabbed by customs and am really relieved to know I was wrong.
Second parcel which should be with you shortly as it has been gone a week or so and has definatley not been written in soluable ink as I did it myself.
xx Jeannine
Yayyyyyyyy how lucky is that. I am so glad they have been returned to you, I felt guilty somehow, they had been lost. (must make mental apology to postie :-\)
;D Jeannine has been breeding 'Homing seeds' ;D ;D
