Title: How much snow do you have?
Post by: Sparkly on December 20, 2009, 10:52:22
We had about a cm on thurs and then another cm yesterday, which was then washed away with a load of rain.  It is now snowing again and we have a couple of cm. This is South Manchester. Anyone in Bury? Much snow there?

Just a covering in south Birmingham.

Not enough for snow balls/men, but enough to go sledging and more that enough to cancel a train.

Still plenty laying here although there was only a light fall last night. Getting fed up with having to keep drying the dogs tummy when she comes in from the garden Do they sell "doggy stilts" I wonder. Bitterly cold.

We had 3-4" over night Thurs/Fri in Essex. I had a slight panic as was preparing food Friday and part of Saturday for MIL 80th Birthday( surprise until 5 minutes before she arrived- she thought she was going out for a meal with her 2 sons and their families)- had 35 guests coming to our home from Brighton way, Lincolnshire, Kent and Sussex and had visions of no one turning up.

In my mind I formed a contingency plan, we could open the house to all the neighbours to consume the food and drink. The neighbours lost out as all bar 2 guests arrived and a good time was had by all I believe. Several people had not seen each other for between 6-10 years and some children not at all. My MIL had not seen one sister for approximately 8-10 years.

I have now got to start again as having immediate family for Christmas. Snow still remains as it has been so cold

I would like to wish everyone a happy Christmas

Loads of snow here.  Went to allotment can't see swiss chard or spinach beet. All covered in snow.

A lot of animal footprints around the site, foxes mainly.

Plenty of idiots got stuck in our cul de sac ( we live down a slope).  Fortunately they all eventually got out.

Walked through snow above the ankles and in some places nearly up to my knees.

Somehow I don't think it will be gone by tomorrow night.

Hi Y'all

All my outlaws in Essex and London have had heaps.  Here in the Wild West a flurry on Saturday which laid hen tfroze, and overnight last night anoher flurry which also froze.  Just enough for pavements to be deadly and the kids to be happy making slides.  And butt-freezing cold!!!!

Holy moly, GrannieAnnie, that's a lot of snow there!  Where are you?

We've had some nice falls here in W.Essex but nothing life stopping, lol, perhaps 2-3 inches.  Another fall overnight but again, nothing major.  Why oh why couldn't it have held out for a few more days so a white Christmas could be had by all?? ::)

If the snow is still in my garden come Christmas day, I'm gonna get the family to run out for a picture so I can declare 2009 a white Christmas!

For us here in Staffs, the snow that fell 3 days ago is still on the ground!

Hi Emmy, Unfortunately the cottage is a tied cottage, I have worked in the garden for almost 24 years but will lose it in the near future.I see you are in the Stafford area I did work for the Earl of Shrewsbury at Ingestre Hall back in the 50's. This is the owners house where we are, it used to be a private boys school.

Beautiful pictures Tonybloke and Laurieuk, no snow here so even nicer looking at your fab shots.

What stunning grounds Laurieuk, you must be very proud of them, I'm sorry things are changing. Thank you for sharing your photos.

Good lord, the snow was falling thick and fast earlier in W. Essex!  Started late afternoon and by the time I'd finished work at 5, it was at least 3-4 inches deep and still falling strong! As I've mentioned before, I work next to a part of Epping forest and boy did it look gorgeous by the time I left - unfortunately too dark for any pictures though and I'm not at work tomorrow, sigh.  The traffic was horrendous because we all had to crawl and the four mile journey home took about an hour and a half.  Apparently we're forecast another heavy load around 5.00am.  What can I say, I loves the snow! ;D

PS - gorgeous pics, laurie! and some entries for the Dec. photo comp in this thread I see ...  ;)

Hi Laurie, what a shame you will lose the cottage-seems horribly unfair but I suppose that's the system.  :(

We still have over 3" of snow and this morning the frost was really hard, it was strange walking on really crunchy snow (hard top soft centre)

When you go into private service with a tied house you know that at sometime it all comes to an end. We are very fortunate in that we work for a gentleman who I am sure will do something for us, it is just that the whole place will be sold and we do not know really what happens to us. Thank you all for your concern, I am due to stop working at some point (I am 78) so this may not be a bad thing.

Rained last night but by the morning it had all turned to ice the place was like a skating rink first thing with an inch of ice all over the ground.

Expect it will be a wrench having to move.  Better put your name down for every allotment you can find.

lots more snow last night and this morning in North Yorkshire in the Dales... its beautiful.  yesterday we had to push car out of small snow drift up the lane, but today the tractor had gone through to clear it.  This is my OH remembering how he pushed the car out as I got in and drove... (I said you're stronger; you can push, and I'll drive!!!)

Some lovely photos there!

Here in Bristol there was 6 inches of beautiful snow which has semi-thawed and turned to ice. Not quite as pretty as the Yorkshire Dales, and treacherous to walk on. Recommend these slip-on snow-grabber things to go on your shoes http://www.blacktoe.co.uk/ice%20Grips/ice%20grips.htm Dont know what I would have done without them and I'm not even that elderly!
