Title: My books;..
Post by: Tee Gee on December 12, 2009, 18:40:32
Thought I would start a new thread;

I have been playing around with the some software that I thought I would try out on you before I take it further.

n.b. some of you might have to download a small 'plug in' (its virus free) to be able to use it.

Open the file by clicking on the > button I think all the other buttons are self explanatory!

It is three books I have written!

Namely; 'Almanac', 'From the beginning', and 'Carnations'

I practiced on the latter because it was quite small.

They are here; http://www.thegardenersalmanac.co.uk/Images/Library.htm (http://www.thegardenersalmanac.co.uk/Images/Library.htm)

I look forward to your comments good or bad

There doesn't appear to be a .dnl reader for Mac, *nix or Linux, so I can't comment. (Unless I want to fire up Windows...  :-X )

Thanks for the feedback.

I thought there would have been a lot more considering that the item has been read 140 times :'(

Tim could it be your firewall that is  the problem, at first my firewall was quite keen until I gave authorisation for access.

Another thing I have noticed with IE is it bars 'pop ups' unless you click X ( the Bill Gates kiss)

Sorry Sholls from what I can see it is a 'windows' system only.

Glad you managed to access it Tony and also pleased that you liked it!

As I say it would have been nice to have had another few thoughts on it.

I don't want to go to the trouble of putting it on my website only for people to be unable to acccess it.

I must admit I like the book format to the scrolling it seems a more natural way to read something.

Or is it me being a bit old fashioned and still like 'books'?

Hi TeeGee. Thanks for posting your latest work - I thought I hadn't seen you around much!
I've had a flick through the almanac and the from the beginning. The one things I'd say in terms of constructive criticism, is that I'm not sure about the book format. If I want to read a book, I'll do so. I'm not sure if the book format is a bit gimmicy? But that might just be me. I do like the simplicity of the formatting - a few colours, a few pics, obvious heading etc.
As for those on Macs not being able to view it, had you thought of using Adobe?

Hi TeeGee-100 of those views are probably me coming back to your link! My pc gets as far as asking if I want to run file then the whole lot goes away and not a trace of it can I find!! How annoying. I'll get there in the end.  :-\

Could the problem be that in tranferring the 'plug in' link to my website I have mucked it up somewhere ??? ???

Perhaps if I give you the link to the original source and you download it from there it might work  ??? ???

Worth a try I suppose;
