Hi all, anyone got any ideas wot to do with chestnuts apart from the usual chuckin em on the fire to roast! if i boil them first and shell them can anything be made with them? thanx  ;D

You can make chestnut jam. You need the shelled flesh, well cooked, and rubbed through a sieve to make a fine puree. Add the juice of 2 large lemons to each 500g of chestnut puree, and add 500g sugar. Cook up to 105 degrees in a thick bottomed pan, preferaby with heat diffuser under.

they used to sell a mix of sprouts with chestnuts frozen. I liked the chestnuts better than the frozen sprouts.

It is supposed to be delish cooked and made into a puree sweetened to taste with ice cream (chestnuts-not-sprouts) had a recipe once and seem to remember it said mix chestnut puree with condensed milk, then make ice cream with the mix. Forgot the rest.
