My leaves from last year have composted down beautifully. Is there any where I should not use it? Is it O.K. for all crops which I hope to grow next year?
well done you,im jealous!ours just look exactly the same, from 2 years ago !
The gutters round here are full of a thick slimey mess, seems to be rotting down there just fine.

sieve it, and use it for seed-sowing, you won't get any better medium for seeds!
apply to al areas of the garden, all plants love it.
ill try that tony,thanks!
(i dont like your spider)
I use it everywhere, except onions and carrots.
I find these are better in good soil rather than leaf mould, and if you add leaf mould after planting it stops the sunlight.
For good leaf mould (leaves eaten by bacteria), you need 3 things, water, oxygen and warmth.
Water - make sure your leaves are wet but not water logged.
Oxygen - turn your heap over (i do mine once a month from April onwards).
Warmth - I add grass clippings, as much as i can get hold of (especially when turning over) .

Thanks for replies. Sieve at the ready for when its warmer. I won't put it on the onion bed which I am getting ready. Thats for that. Plenty of other places to put it.
I'm just making some for the first time- I think I read I should get my OH to water it?

This time of year, just let a few good downpours get to it.
In a typical summer , just let a few good downpours get to it. ;)
Moist but not water logged is what your looking for. If using a darlek, (or similar) take the lid off and let the weather in. If its raining too much (ie during the summer), keep the lid on.
If we do, in this ever changing world, have a long hot dry summer, then yes - get the OH to water it. If you feel the plants need a drink, so does the compost heap - do it at the same time, no more, no less.
