Title: summer raspberries
Post by: anemone on November 22, 2009, 17:01:39
Sorry I know this must be somewhere already but I couldn't find it.

If I plant summer raspberries now, will I get any in the coming summer? The advice seems to be to chop them down once planted so I don't see how I will get any fruit if they produce on the previous year's growth.

many thanks

if they were supplied with the cane, you can plant them as is, leave the cane, and get some fruit next summer.  ;)

The cut them down advice is to allow them to root well... if left long they can be rocked by the wind and not root well, if at all    :-X

I haven't got them yet, I'm about to order some. Maybe i'll  cut down half and keep half if they are canes :)
