This afternoon I took a trip to our local hospital to have the arthritic joint in my big toe fused. Been waiting for this for ages, suffered for six years, and now finally it's been done.
So I'm confined to my chair, with my foot up, in plaster, and a great big shoe to make sure I don't put my foot flat on the floor. Got to take plenty of pain killers, and the plaster comes off in 2 weeks. So I'm sitting here with the TV on (pergatory!), laptop on my lap, book by my side and unfortunately no glass of wine. Going to do all my Christmas shopping on line, catch up on letters and emails, maybe do a bit of work, and can keep up to date on all the A4A threads!
Can't wait till I can start walking again. Driving will be in about 6-8 weeks.
It's hard to believe that I walked the 200 yards or so to the hosp at 12.30, had a 40 min operation under general anaesthetic and home by 5.30 feeling no after-effects. What a day :o :o :o :o
Thinking of you. Look after yourself. Don't rush and do too much too soon.
we'll be seeing a bit more of you on here, then!! ;)
Hope you make a good recovery Asbean :)
I have got a load of brass ornaments that could do with a good polish if you want.
Wishing you a good recovery.
Hope you get better soon and all goes smoothly.
Hope you're not too groggy today - I'm sure you'll be doing ballet again in no time!
O x
wishing you well and an uneventful recovery (http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk187/thifasmom/smilies/flower3.gif).

Ha! That's one of the things on my list ;D ;D ;D Along with Christmas shopping and cards, and knitting. And preparing veg for meals.
Had a good night, luckily no after effects from the anaesthetic, woke to a bit of pain, now it's a dull ache, but I'm on the sofa with my foot on the sofa back, laptop, phone, mobile, pills, water, books and magazines next to me and there I'll have to stay. Walking is very uncomfortable despite the special shoe and to be avoided at all costs.
Just got to live through the next couple of weeks, will be on here a lot more than usual, I can read ALL the threads instead of just the ones I have time to read :) :) :) :)
Thank you for the good wishes, It's strange being laid up and not ill, my mind and body want to get on as normal.
good to hear you are feeling so chirpy this morning
Get lots of rest - and I'm talking about resting the credit card ::)
Congrats on your surgery and not having to put up with foot pain the rest of your life.
You didn't mention all the bureau drawers and desk drawers you could straighten which is what I'd be doing with one tootsie up in the air. You sound like a model patient so I'm guessing you'll make a quick recovery, asbean.
guess who will be the first to get her christmas cards in the post........
speedy recovery asbean
x
Hope your recovery is smooth and not too uncomfortable, don't forget to do your leg exercises regularly to keep your circulation going! ;D
.....and please don't forget that effective pain control starts BEFORE the pain from the surgery gets hold, eh?
So....keep taking the pills, 'Bean :)...and, btw, dayime TV is dire (so I'm told :P) unless it's QVC or whatever it's called - it's the one where one of my laydees buys loads and loads of prezzies an stuff for peeps (and herself!) - some, even, from T&M 8)
Seriously, all the best for a successful and speedy recovery, but I was MOST serious when I wrote about the pain control stuff, and, coming in on the back of Deb's post, any exercises you've been given.
Onwards & upwards, eh Deb? and we'll have you doing the can-can in no time atorl ;D ;D ;D
yeah, the pain relief is fantastic, started taking the tabs before the local wore off. It's not comfortable, but certainly no pain bearing in mind the joint was taken apart. Am doing everything I've been told, I think the first few days will be the worst.
hope your toe gets better quickly for you, ready for the christmas party knees up ;D
Mine is due on 17th December! So Christmas sat down.
Take it easy, Asbean (I shudder at the description, never mind the action!) Hope everything heals nice and comfortably :)
Good to hear its all done and your not in to much pain :)
Hubby had his big toe nails taken off and it was the same rules.
I also have my feet up Asbean, feck all wrong with me, just being a lazy git, :P all the best Asbean. ;D ;D ;D
All the best to you ,speedy recovery , hope you are not in any pain xxx ;D
Sorry to hear you had to have an op. Asbean. I'm glad it went off all right and that you are managing to control the pain. Get well soon.
Love, Pauline :-*
Make the most of it luv, and indulge in some sofa surfin - lovely!
Seriously, hope recovery goes to plan ;)
Lushy x
I'm fed up with the sofa, I've now moved to a chair with a stool and pillows, which is much more comfortable. I've read one book, started another and knitted back and sleeves of a baby jumper. My ironing pile is getting bigger and ... ... ... guess what ??? ??? ???
I DON'T CARE :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o
Sounds as though you've got the post-op stuff sussed! Hope it continues to go smoothly.

Glad to hear you're being such a good patient, asbean. Sounds like it's time for a stack of Dick Francis mysteries.
Hey Asbean! A couple of weeks off yer feet'll be so worth it......I can imagine its driving you mad tho, not long now........and the ironing will still be there!! ;D ;D ;D
Bless ya......is there anything you want or need??
