Title: Book reading on the radio
Post by: SamLouise on November 18, 2009, 13:32:41
I've decided that I'd very much like to be read to before going to sleep  :P and I wondered if anyone was aware of a reading time on the radio?  As you can tell, I don't listen to the radio very much; only Absolute when I'm at work.  I don't want to listen to plays or the Archers etc but I'd like to hear a book from start to finish - a Jackanory for the mature if you please!

Thanks in advance :)

I down load a book from my local library. Put it on my ipod, then listen too it when I like. Listen through earphone so nobody else will be disturbed or through the docking station like a radio.

I think most libraries are on line now, but there are thousands of free ebooks on line. Some modern phones have this application as well.

If you have not got an ipod get it for a xmas pressy, but don't get the cheapest. Get the lastest generation nano and use it for a lot more things.

Yup book at bedtime for your Jackanory for adults  ;D (I loved that programme!!)

But as Ace suggests - the libraries have loads of stuff, great stories read by great actors / writers (on CD or downloadable). So that when book at bedtime doesn't coincide with your bedtime or the story is annoying the pants off you, you can listen to what you want  ;D

It goes bang when it drops to the floor and wakes you up again.

Why don't you like plays? Afternoon theatre etc. are great listening, so is womans  hour, in fact most of radio 4 is worth tuning in for. I 'listen again' to stuff I've missed in the day most evenings. Better than the TV any day.

It's a while since I've listened to a good play on radio4, they mostly seem to have some right heavy crap on.

Why don't you like plays?

After my original post, I did think to myself, hmmm I think I might actually like to listen to a play too!  I'm assuming with plays it's all done in one go and I was hoping more for a daily/nightly session.

Flightly, I read non stop, whenever I can, including in bed but I'd like to listen also!

Ace, I'm very much looking into the buying/borrowing/downloading of books as you've suggested.

Thanks all for your suggestions and help :)
