Parts of Britain are being battered by the biggest storm of the year so far, bringing the risk of flooding and wind damage.
Britain braced for worst storm of the year
Gales in excess of 80mph and heavy rain lashed the south overnight.
here in lancashire...no wind or rain
yet
Been windy and raining here today, in not so sunny Enfield, very dark this morning at 8 am. My plastic greenhouse hasn't blown away (yet) so that's good.
we are taking a bit of a bettering on the south coast but not really a storm. just very wet and windy. no damage.
My little weather station has just shown a gust of 74 mph, it is not cold though 19.8c. we lost count of the rainfall as my measure has filled up.
I am usually posting to say we did not get the rain everyone else had but not this time. Came down last night by the bucket load. Bright first thing but it is now at it again.
Bloody wind took my fence down during the night been and brough the stuff to fix it but still far to windy to do it :(
Hi Y'all
Down here in the Wild Wild West my mini greenhouse was picked up and thrown across the decking, absolutely full of overwintering plants, garlic in modules etc. What a flippin mess, heartbreaking. Cleared up what I could but the greenhouse, new this year is a write-off, plastic all ripped - aarrgghh. Still I know what I want for Christmas. Anyone know if you can just buy the covers for these mini-greenhouses tho?
I went over the lottie and apart from nearly all the black ground covering membrane having being ripped up (despite strainless steel pegging) all is OK. But folks it really is scary just walking about down here. You can here branches cracking and can actually lean on the wind. We are recording gusts of up to 85 mph, so pleeeeez don't ask what storm? If you haven't got it, lucky old you!
Regards, Caro
Feel sorry for yoy Caro, quite wet & windy here in Sussex too but nothing anywhere near like 1987.
In answer to your question - yes you can get new covers, try wherever it came from.
As Borlotti says stomy here with high winds and plenty of rain, :'( Jim I would be flabagasted :o if there was no rain in Lancs today, are you sure you live in Preston though, cause your map shows you above Carlisle nearly in Gretna. :-\ ??? :-\ ??? ;D ;D ;D

My son and family are heading towards Cornwall as I write, for a week's holiday. I won't relax till I know they've arrived safely.
I have seen just plastic covers for mini green houses some where but can't remember where it was.
Probably up a tree PH. ;D ;D ;D
no rain here since 6am this morning, plus, the wind died about the same time :)
hopefully, it'll blow away from you, too..caro :)
It's quite windy here in West Sussex but not really a storm. The trampoline was lifted off its legs and is lying on the lawn. I'm just glad I don't have to go and collect it from a neighbour's garden. ;D I'm standing by with the chainsaw at the ready incase anyone in the neighbourhood has a tree down.
I would say it is a storm as it has been gusting 60 knots and storm force ten for inshore waters here in Shoreham - so yes, we got it :)
Lushy x
My bad. I'm used to Scottish weather. This is probably classed as a storm down here but up north we would call it breezy. :P
Quotemy mini greenhouse was picked up and thrown across the decking, absolutely full of overwintering plants,
No joke when this happens. I lost a whole set of plants one spring, the thing blew over and all the plants landed upside down, rescued only a few. It really put me off mini greenhouses. I was going to get a new cover, but they are not much cheaper than the full thing. When I looked at the frame it was rusting in places and was simply not up to a replacement cover.
Been peaing down now all afternoon.
could you not buy some thick polythene and using the old cover as a pattern, make another?
been blowing and raining for 2 days here near Bristol! we drove down to Poole and back yesterday (yes it was a long way for a car part) and it didn't let up all day
