Title: Carrot Root Fly Damage on Storage??
Post by: George the Pigman on November 12, 2009, 21:48:39
Can one get carrot root fly damage once the carrots have been pulled? I picked some carrots last week and I swear they looked OK but on storage in our garage they now have quite a lot of carrot root fly damage. There was some soil still attached to the carrots.

It seems reasonable to assume that if the bug is there when the crop is harvested that it will survive long enough to do damage.

They won't be flying now but the damage will have been done in the soil... as the maggots get bigger the damage becomes more noticeable..  :'(
