Would you be interested in Victor Osborne's Digger's Diary: Tales from the Allotment? I bought and read it last year, and thoroughly enjoyed it. It's a relatively quick read, but good. PM me your address and I'll pop it in the post if you fancy it! ooh, no, just remembered: postal strike... when are you going on your hols??

I feel embarrassed to say it, but the Harry Potter books were the best books I've ever read.  There.  Said it.

Not sure how much gardening or eating are involved here.. but some of my unputdownable favorites are:

Ian Banks - the Wasp Factory
Augusten Burroughs - Running with Scissors
Alex Garland - The Beach (much better than the film)
Zoe Heller - Notes on a Scandal (ditto)
Russell Brand - My Booky Wook (had me laughing out loud, doesnt matter if you dont like him)
Anything by Joe Simpson. Have no intention of going mountaineering but love a bit of death-defying icy adventure from the comfort of my sofa or deckchair!
