Title: soft scale insect
Post by: Peggy on October 24, 2009, 19:57:54
I have these scaly bugs on my roses - I think they came from a lemon tree first.  One of the roses is a high-growing Mme Alfred Carriere - not a hope of getting up and washing them all off.  Shall I just cut it back drastically ?  Or cut it down completely, or let it continue to grow and risk the bugs moving to other roses?  There were not so many roses this year on the Mme Alfred, or on the other bush that has the bugs.  Nasty little beasts!

Hi Peggy and welcome to A4A, I dont know the answer to your problem, though I sympathise.....my dwarf acer has scale too. I just power wash them off or squash as many as I can.

Thats not easy with rose thorns. Someone else may have a better idea for you to try. ;)

Thorough spraying with a tar oil winter wash in December or January gives good control of scales on deciduous trees and shrubs, including fruit.
