Due to very poor off duty rostering i owed 26 hours accrued over 6 months i made this up over 4 weeks and another 27 which they then owed me.
i was then rostered for a 53 hr week leading straight into another 33 hours with no time off. i went on to explain that in my previous job this had happend regularly and i ended up ill in hospital with pneumonia and pericarditis.
i wrote an email to the rostering matron asking if she could reduce this as i felt it was too many especially as she already owed me 27, my email was polite and this has been checked by union etc etc but i received a letter saying that i had threatened her and that how dare i accuse her of personally making me so ill i will end up in hospital?? and that she was going to give me coaching skills in communication and team working ????? a copy would also be kept on my file
i was really upset about this and contacted the senior matron who told me i had threatened this other matron by writing the word thanks in my email and that it would be kept on my file in case i reoffended. i was furious and contacted the union to find out where i stood ( i only emailed because i was on nights and she was on annual leave and i wanted to give her enough notice to change the shifts, however she is very difficult to talk to)
they told me my email was not threatening and wrote to tell the rostering matron this.
the rostering matron regularly in our communication book swears on one occasion telling us we looked like fing t**** and she wants to give me lesons in communication. (funnily enough all of this has miraculously disappeared)
well i have been waiting to hear of a meeting that is due to take place with myself and my union rep, a member of HR and the rostering matron.
i have been on annual leave since the 30th sept went to work yesterday no letter or emails there for me.
anyway this morning my union rep rang to ask me why i wasnt at the meeting set for 10 am this morning and that HR were supposed to have contacted me, and could i go in now. Well i said no, i couldnt i am currently again on annual leave because of my daughters 21st party this weekend which i am organising and catering etc plus i have a stinking cold and dont feel brilliant.
i am so cross that no one bothered to check i was aware of the meeting including my union rep and also especially the rostering matron who knows i would only be in work for one shift she could have got someone to check i was aware of the meeting.
sorry this is long and boring but i needed to get it off my chest.
sorry to hear that, deb, some of these 'little hitlers' get on my nerves, my daughter is a nurse and there's one of them there, will they re-arrange your meeting? it's only fair..btw, You were very forebearing, I would probably have decked her :)
to be honest manics i know its a thank less task doing the off duty and complete nightmare but if you try and speak to her all you get is oh fing off duty im sick of fing off duty etc and she is not a nice piece of work but i stay professional its so annoying, there is a whold list of complaints against the rostering matron at least 4 people have gone to the union so i know its not just me
but they seem to get aay with it, how come?
Sam's had a few run-ins with hers(also a matron) , lots of people complain but she's still in charge, God help any patients they come in contact with ::)
Sorry you're having to put up with this deb. Stay calm and professional and let the union sort it out for you. I'm having a tough time with a very similar little hitler at the moment so fully sympathise.
Try and forget about it for the weekend and enjoy the party - how's that cake coming along? Hope you feel better too.
Sorry to read this Deb, I know it is it is hard enought to remain professional with patients sometimes, let alone your colleagues! I do not think it was unreasonable to complain about your rota. Perhaps you could ask for a referral to Occupational Health to discuss this and get them to back you up on what is a reasonable work pattern? Yes, we all know doing/covering off duty is a thankless task, but the reaction to your email seems extreme and uncalled for. You were not at fault for missing the meeting, but hopefully when you do meet up you can air your grieviences with two neutral third parties, and I would query why your communications are being put on your personal file. Good luck!
Sorry to hear about your problem Debs. hope you soon get it sorted. I really do think that its the matron who needs to get her communication skills sorted if she can't let you know about an important meeting such as that
debster So sorry to hear about all this rubbish you're having to put up with. Something that's always puzzled me-why do people (your matron)work with people when they clearly don't like people ::)
ps hope your daughter has a lovely party, and you enjoy it too :)
Stick to your guns girl and don't let the buggers get you down. ;) If it wasn't you it would be some other poor soul by the sound of it. Don't know what these folk get out of making others suffer. Your union rep sounds like she/he needs a kick up the backside too. Go to it Debster.
Hope you feel better in time for the party and have a great time. 'Family First'.
Happy 21st to your daughter Deb.
Why not take things into your own hands - rather than wait for hr/whoever to arrange the next meeting and hope that they remember to let you know.
Keep a record of everything and consider taking out your own grievance against this woman for her bullying and aggressive manner towards you - that'll get their attention.
Good luck whatever you decide to do.
All good advice Deb, they should have let you know about the meeting, this is the problem with email if you are not there, as a part timer and union rep I find it difficult and had to resort to giving my home email to the union head office over the summer. Just keep at it, it certainly seems to be an unfair work pattern and if others have complained about her too they cant keep ignoring the issues. Good luck, keep us posted.
Lushy x
Only communicate via the union rep or at leat CC them on everything... bit duff about them doing a meetinbg when yoiu're on leave though.... try to write really long winded emails with vast amounts of re-iterative waffle between actual points and make sure the unoin rep gets a copy minus the waffle.... I've used it before and believe me these people have no patience but daren't screw up once the union is involved... but they will snap and then you will have the rep on your side.... and most organisations when confronted with an audit trail will get rid of the one that snapped....
