I have grown Golden Sunrise in my greenhouse this year and had a great crop. The fruits a good size and taste lovely, the problem after a couple of days brown spots almost like freckles appear on the skin (at the top of the tomato near the calyx) - these spots are only on the skin - the toms are fine if I skin them.
Any ideas?

It's probably a mild form of "greenback"... :-X
Probably the results of water droplets drying on the skin of the tomato.
The sun is magnified through the droplet forming scorch marks.
As you have found they are harmless.

Actually TeeGee the spots dont appear for about 3 or 4 days after they have been picked and are in the basket in my kitchen.

It may just be part of the ripening process .... :-\

Do you mean like freckles Saddad??? :)

Basically... some red varieties get a bit discoloured on the shoulders when they are very ripe. If you save your own seed you see a lot of "very ripe" tomatoes... as they are the best for seed... :)

Thanks Saddad, but the tomatoes are Golden Sunrise. Will dig out camera and take a picture later.

I know we are talking about yellow toms but I don't know enough of the chemistry to know if it would show as brown... :-X
