It's on its way :) :) :)
Posted this morning to its first destination, a v-e-r-y loooooong way north. North of the border, in fact.
I have checked and double checked, and these are the names on the list (but not necessarily in that order), I'm sure I haven't left anyone out, I double checked about three times against emails and posts, so I apologise if anyone is missing.

Included is a numbered list, and labels for sending, and also labels for the return address on the back, just in case. I got a proof of posting, which I think would be wise, not that it would be found if lost, but you never know.
Happy travelling, parcel 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)
Thankyou so much for organising the swap Asbean
Wow I am really excited - how sad am I?
Lottie
yippee, well done asbean!
Can someone early on the list PM me their address and I will send my spare seeds to them to add to the parcel, then hopefully tack my name on the end of the list, probably if you are about fourth or fifth it will give me a chance to get them all bundled up and off on Monday next week....
chrisc
Oh bottoms... just read that the list is closed..... oh well.... ignore previous post then.... will try to join another one as and when....
chrisc
Thanks asbean, can't wait!
Thank you so much for organising this, I'm another sad person who is really looking forward to it. :)
I've never joined in with one of these before, so is the idea that however many packets of seeds you take from the parcel, you replace with the same number of your own?
You can put in or take out as many as you want, doesn't have to be the same. They don't have to be full packets either - you can take just a pinch or a couple of seeds and reseal the packet.
can't wait, either, we got some creamy romanesco last year and they've been fantastic ;D
hope the post doesn't cause probs :-\
So grateful for asbean for starting ths swap. :-* Can't wait!
Told my mum about it yesterday and she said she has plenty of seeds I can have to add to the parcel. ;D
Fantastic ;D Can't wait.
It's so exciting!! Thanks Asbean!
Do you P.M. the person you are sending to so they know its coming ???
They do now!! ;D ;D ;D It's arrived. Wow!!
I've been working all day on Allotment Association stuff so have barely gone downstairs all day. A quick tomato sandwich then back to work. I've just gone to the front door to get something from my car and there it was - sitting on the table in the porch waiting patiently for me to find it.
It's full of lovely things, so I'll have a good look tonight, pop in a few more, then send it winging on its way tomorrow.
Many thanks Asbean. Looking forward to receiving it.

It's fun to give a cryptic clue as to where you're sending it - and also helpful if you post that it's been received and when sent on, especially in these times of postal strikes etc.
Glad it arrived OK, keep it moving, guys 'n gals :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)
You are so right!! Here is the next recipient:
This fellow with a bladder problem can't do the distance on the Norwegian national dish so lands on his bum we hear.
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Wow Quick off the mark Asbean.
Can we make guesses as to who's next or keep stum?

Wow Quick off the mark Asbean.
Can we make guesses as to who's next or keep stum?
I think it would be fun to make guesses - and then be proved right or wrong - on this one I'm stumped - uber-cryptic that clue is ??? ???
Ain't got a clue
Well you have but maybe it is a bit too cryptic! :P Sorry! Any guesses?
The parcel is now sitting in Currie PO. It was too big for the post box so won't leave until tomorrow (I'd forgotten that Wednesday is the local early closing day. You don't notice these things when you're at work.)
It will be winging it's way down south from the Pentlands to the Pennines but will it veer right to red rose country or left to the white rose of York? It's heading for:
this fellow
with a bladder problem
can't do the distance on the Norwegian national dish
so lands on his bum we hear.
!!! ;D ;D :o
I will reveal all later today if noone works it out first. ;)
My first thoughts were manicscousers, but then, I can't do cryptic ???
not just me then? ;D

and you were spot on !
Quote from: Jayb on October 07, 2009, 13:48:31

Well you must be an excellent guesser!
this fellow = man
with a bladder problem= interstitial cystitis (commonly known as IC)
can't do the distance on the Norwegian national dish -
the Norwegian national dish is lapskous, take away the distance, "lap" and you get skous
so lands on his bum we hear =erse (arse in Morningside) = rs
It should be in Lancashire by Friday morning!
And I do apologise. :-[ I've not made up cryptic clues before. ::) ::)
:o
That's one really CRYPTIC clue.
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
But I liked it.
MP
Really excited it's on it's way.
Thank you Asbean.
oooh, it's me next, I'm soooo excited !!!!
don't worry, Anne , my clue won't fool anyone ;D
Wow, I've done a crypticky thing :o wooohoo! ;D ;D 8)
Unfortunately the only bit I got right was man ;D, rest was way over for me, but decided scouser was close-ish sounding to the herring dish, and being a fish which Norway has lots of ::)
flipping heck that was the most cryptic clue ever!!! You are one smart cookie!
I have the list here and really thought she'd deviated from the order - but couldn't figure out WHO it could be. That is as cryptic as they come. Well done, Grawrc ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
please say we all don't have to be as cryptic as that, it would take me weeks :-[
Just a quick question -
Is the 'parcel' a padded envelope that would fit through a standard size letterbox?
I lock my porch when I go out so anything that won't fit through the letterbox has to be collected or re-delivered.
Yes it's a padded envelope, but the woman in my local PO measured it and pronounced it too big for the letterbox - too fat I think!! I suppose it might squeeze through but she was basing it on PO regulations no doubt.
Anyway whoever is ending it to you can always give you warning that it is coming.
finally catching up on my reading and realised i missed this starting and on trying to guess the first clue, not that i had chance.
i am also mucho excited, i love the swapsies.
not here yet, hopefully tomorrow ;D
It won't have left Edinburgh till this morning Mal - Wednesday's early closing at the local PO. i could of course, had I thought, taken it to Asda where the PO is open all day but it's trying to support your local PO so they don't close it down and by the time I realised it was Wednesday she had already stamped it and done the certificate of posting. Anyway it's first class so fingers crossed it'll be with you tomorrow.
don't worry, Anne..I'm just getting over excited ;D
The parcel has landed ;D
had a good rootle around it, it will be in the post tomorrow to someone with a similar name as the sauce but a different colour ;D

Phew! Ever so glad it's arrived! I've been on tenterhooks all day!!
I'll be the same until it's safely there :)
;D Did you find some stuff you fancied?
oooh, yes, new melons for next year ;D
I sorted my stuff out yesterday to put in the parcel. I could do with making another parcel of me own. ;D

It's good to be prepared :) :) :)
If you have loads, why not start another parcel? There will be enough people to join in, I'm sure. I got 25 joiners in less than 24 hours! Just so long as we know which parcel is which, last year I think a couple of people signed up to a couple of swaps and weren't sure which was which when they turned up. In which case I think I'll pm the next person who get the parcel to write the title of the swap on the list, so that won't happen!
Another thing to bear in mind is the pending strike - and Christmas. Keep an eye on the news.
And keep the cryptic clues going - it's such fun ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Well by the time it has gone round the first ones won't have seen all the seeds so we could start again. I think I will stick with this one for now Asbean
everyone's doing a great job- thanks for getting this swap out so quickly Asbean. its really quite exciting....like the rain we're getting in Norfolk tonight! after such a long dry spell. (Can dead grass come back to life).
It arrived this morning! Going to have a root about in my seed box to find some interesting seeds to go in, will be on it's way in the morning to Frank Spencers wife, where she lives could be mistaken for Lyon or Milan, and it appears she is a fan of the fruit of the vine genus cucurbita! EASY!! ;D
I'm guessing Squash64.
Thanks for organising Asbean, the parcel is moving at quite a rate. It's all very exciting. :)

Thanks for the clue, it needed to be easy for me!
Already posted! Thanks Asbean, great fun and gave me a push to sort my seeds out! ;D
cor, glad it arrived safely ;D
Its really flying,i will never malign the Royal Mail again, :-X
Wow it is flying, isn't it?!
What a great example the first few people have set us. ;D
I've been buzy the last few days and only just picked this thread up , but now i'm really excised :) :) i didn't think it would get going this quick ;D
I am so annoyed.
Usually there is nobody at home while I'm at the allotments every morning but my son is staying here for a few days so I didn't worry about the seeds being delivered and there being nobody in to sign for them.
Except that the postman didn't knock and just left a card saying that the parcel had been returned to the delivery office. There's no chance that he knocked and my son didn't hear because my dogs would have barked.
On the card it says I have to leave 48 hours before collecting it. That will be Saturday now because they are only open till 12.
B*gger!
So sorry, but the parcel will be slightly delayed on its journey now. :'(
Awww how disappointing for you. Nevermind, you'll have it for the weekend to enjoy. ;)
Hubby was just saying yesterday that Sarah Kennedy was on about just that sort of thing happening on a Radio 2 discussion. Apparently goes on quite a bit.

They're having a laugh aren't they? Down here it can be up to 4 hours depending on how far through the round the postman is. Our sorting office is also only open until lunchtime but you can always collect a parcel the morning after the card is left, sometimes even on the same day if you're lucky.

its the same for us 48hrs ??? what the eck are they on about ::).
Ours is about 4 hours. But he should have knocked. Beat him up next time you see him >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(
Next day here. It happens all the time. Even when they do ring the bell.
On one occasion I was standing behind the door as it happened when a card came through saying they had rung but no-one had answered. He was well embarrassed when I opened the door and asked for my parcel! ;D ;D :o
Quote from: asbean on October 14, 2009, 17:35:38

The problem is that the postie knows that when my car isn't outside the front door then I am not in. I should have left a note on the letterbox telling him to ring the bell but I didn't think.
I went to the Royal Mail website and it gave me the option of having it redelivered on Friday, so I booked that.
(I'll beat him up
after he gives me the package)
That's typical, half of them don't bother to knock these days. Parcelforce just post a card asking me to pick it up if it needs a signature.
Twice this year I've had parcels left on the doorstep which they're not supposed to do. Both were then opened and items broken or taken! Complaining to them was a total waste of time as were the letters of apology that I finally received.
I've also had a handful of letters sent to me in recent months not arrive. Needless to say you can guess what my opinion of them is now!
Its hard to understand when an item can be move from one end of the country to the other sometimes within 24hrs, how, if they are unable to deliver, it then takes 48hrs for it to be passed on to a local collection point for collection!
May not be allowed but our postie normally leaves parcels, which is fine as it saves 40mile trip to collect.

If the postal service proves efficient ::) (i.e. the parcel arrives tomorrow or Monday) I'll have it back on the road the same day. 8)
The goodie bag has arrived safely, and there's lots of lovely stuff.
It'll be back in the post first thing Monday; I'll return with a clue once it's posted. ;D
I underestimated my ability to sweet talk the postmaster. :D The parcel is back 'in the system' & will be collected on Monday, destined for a member in the vicinity of the M4.
My pitiful attempt at a cryptic clue: receptacle for honey, truncated. I'm sure you'll see why I stick to Sudoku. ::)

Receptacle for honey, first thoughts was a container= pamsdish
Second thought a flower= anemone, flowersofshona, twoflower.
Near the M4, don't think any of them (not sure which area pamdish is in)
Truncated, we talking electrics, maths, medical or what.....ah
Only name truncated, is jayb, bees carry pollen and nectar and make honey! ooooh motorway is not toooo far either
Please tell me I'm right, please pleeeeeeeeeeeeeesea

I'd love to see the package do two trips 'round the list; just so everyone has the opportunity to see how the contents change over time, but that's up to Asbean. I haven`t posted it yet due to strike and dont want it "getting lost" as soon as i can i will post on here ,they are back to work monday !!! Then theres a back log i will keep an ear on the news and if all ok post it Tues or Wed.
I think they are back to work on Saturday but I know the paper said that they are striking again next week. Think it might be the back end of the week.
edited: Yep just checked. Next Thursday again.
Don't these posties know I am waiting for this parcel and am well down the list. :P
oh i got really excited then :)
I will post it tomorrow and trust to luck, saw lots of mail lorries on the M4 today ???
I think you just have to take a chance - if it is in the system, and is well done up and labelled with proof of posting there is no reason for it to get lost. Just delayed. If we keep waiting for gaps in strikes it could be halfway round in six months. ::) ::) ::)
I agree with you both. Its always a worry when you're the one responsible for sending it on, isn't it?
I think you've made the right decision to post it, Pam. :)

Start one :) :) :) :) :) :)
what do i have to do?
mpdjulie - if you want to start a parcel you just start a thread saying you're starting a new pass the parcel and ask people to join.
People will pm your or post and ask to join and then privately send you their details so you can compile a list and then you send out the parcel to the first person and so on, until it comes back to you with a new assortment of seeds so you get something different yourself to plant.
If you do decide I'd love to join. ;)
Or if you wait till this parcel comes back to me, I can send it on to you to start the new round ??? ???
LOL I was just thinking - I bet asbean is thinking she made that sound so simple and all the planning and label making I've put into arranging this pass the parcel. ;D
And we all appreciate it too asbean. ;)
How long do you think it will be before it comes back to you Asbean?
Well, there are 25 people (including myself at the end). I posted it to the first person on 5th October, and it is now en route from No. 6 to No. 7. If everyone is as quick off the mark as the first half dozen, and the post office don't play silly b*ggers, and Christmas is nearly upon us, I think it will take about three months in total. Hard to say, really.
The label part is not hard, either. People who want to participate pm you their name and address, just copy and paste into your label template.
It's a worry, keeping an eye on progress. you feel the responsibility but have no control lol :) :) :) :) :)
I received it today so will get it back on its way as quickly as possible. Some very interesting seeds in there too!

It's on the way. My one experience of mushy peas was many years ago when I was a student. I tried them on a caving trip because I was starving and they were cheap. One look at the colour they turned my chips was enough. Never again!
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
It's here! It's here!
What a lot of goodies to sift through.
I'll have a good root through it and have it on it's way on Monday.
It will be happily winging it's way to the home of that old liquorice sweet.
Shame a few of you have been unimpressed with Mushy Peas. You have not had the real thing with pieces of ham in. The ones usually sold nowadays have artificial colourings :'(.
MP
That's why I won't eat them! As for peas with ham, I've never had it, apart from a concoction of dried peas and spam I had on a camping trip once, and which probably doesn't count.
I've just concocted a herbal oil that is almost exactly that colour!! Olive oil + tarragon, chives and parsley all zapped together. Very good too!!
Now as to the next recipient, my problem is I 'm starting to forget already. Now who comes from Sheffield?

Yep :) :)
Next stop is No. 12 - which is halfway (I'm No. 25, which doesn't count!).
We need to decide what happens when it comes back to me - does anyone want to start another round? If not, I can donate the remains to our local Thrive.
Modified: Ooops! Just looked at my copy of the labels, and can't count - There are 25 plus the return label to me. So almost halfway there!
Let's send it round again and keep it going for a while. I bet the seeds will all be different next time!
I can't wait to see whats in it and I have lots to add to it.
I'd really like another look ;D
I'm really interested to see how it's changed from when I sent it out. But I should have taken a photo of it before it left, and then another on its return. Ah well ... ... ::) ::) ::)

It's here, I've got it! ;D ;D
Had a quick gander and it looks an interesting stash. Will have a sort though and add the bits that I've got ready to add. Shall have it on its way again ASAP. ;)
Would love to join in if it does a second circuit!
The parcel is on its merry way again. My husband posted it today but unfortunately by 2nd class post. Apologies. :-[
Anyway, the clue - hmmmm. Only one I can think of is:
A convenience that every allotmenteer would wish for.
lottie lou ??
A second time around sounds like a good idea. Still waiting with great anticipation for the first round.
It was lottie lou. ;D
I'm hoping that its arrived with her by now.
Sorry I think I gave my work address due to wanting someone to be able to receive it. Haven't been all week due to bereavement, but will find out on Monday.
If it was sent 2nd class on the 18th, it probably won't arrive till Monday :-\ :-\ :-\
Got it. Will be on its way in a couple of days.
Bassey & Bennett duet?
She's too busy with her new arrival!! ;D ;D
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO its us innit ;D
So relieved the parcel found its way!
Could resist looking to see 'the new arrival.' Didn't expect to see a hedgehog but waaay cute. ;D
Packed up and ready for posting tomorrow.
OH posted it today first class
Arrived safely this morning. Going on its way after lunch. Sorry but have had to repackage in alarger envelope
This mint is too good to hurry ;D
Don't forget the clue - the next person needs to be ready ;) ;) ;) ;)
Well over half-way now 8) 8) 8) 8)
Keep it moving on folks I think I am coming up soon getting excited. Only another week or so to wait. :P :P
This thread has gone very quiet has it got lost in the post.
I think it's on its travels - should arrive in a day or so :) :)
Hi everyone I think the postman tried to deliver this package to me yesterday but I was out. I called for a redelĂver and its due over the weekend, sorry for the delay.
Getting closer, Digeroo, getting closer :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o
Not to worry guys the package was literally just delivered :D, its nice and fat so I'm off to check it out.
Posted today and is on route to.......
large white bird + open water= ???????
Blimey :o :o :o :o :o
swansea?
Ah, the clever one again ;) ;) ;) ;)
I was thinking of the forum "name" rather than the place ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)
Even googled the bird, even though we have a pair in the garden so I know the colour!!!

Me too, I'd got as far wondering if it was an actor/ress name in the film 'open water' doh ::)
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY ;D ;D ;D Parcels here, will make a cuppa and have a lookie. Made my day thanks :)
Fab :), great selection and loved looking through. I've added more seeds and its all wrapped ready to go ...... on monday. Sorry guys I was too slow to get it back in the post today :(
I've just been reminded;
A clue to the next stop,
Like, an abbreviated US drama, although Joey thinks something is missing?
OMG ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)

Maybe I'm slow on the uptake - they are either too difficult for me or easy-peasy. The harder the better, gives those anticipating something to work at ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)
Is it Ceres?
is it me, is it me ;D
It it me I am totally confused by most of these clues?
The second half would lead me to suspect Jokey, but, since I don't watch much TV, I don't have a clue about the first half .

Guess I'm craptic at cryptic, missed the k bit completely, I was thinking about the Friends series dah .......
Like your thinking, but not Jokey :)
got a bit excited them, boo! :-[
Sunday break is over and parcel is back in the post, shouldn't be too long as traveling 1st class!
But to who????????????
Anyone want another clue?
Well that was a big surprise. Turned up this morning. Will have it on its way asap.
I love lots colour in my garden. But at the moment it is rather drab. The next person could brighten things up a bit.
Just a quick note to self savers and repackers, more labelling needed on the packets please.
Anyone out there?
Oh dear, that wasn't difficult at all ... ... ... ... ...
Sorry I told you I am hopeless at this crytic bit. I was too worried I might put something with some type of double meaning I had not thought of. Was not even expecting the package so did not solve the last one at all. Still no idea why it refers to me. I was hopeless at comprehension at school. I tend to read non fiction.
I'm thinking twoflower?
Like Dig, an abbreviated US drama ER, although Joey thinks something is missing Joey as in baby kangeroo Roo-R=oo
Dig+ER+oo
Digeroo, it was an excellent clue 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)
Just what's needed to brighten up a drab garden ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)
Well that was a lovely surprise ;D I wasn't expecting it when i saw the big chunky parcel the postman carried down the path this AM, Lots of goodies to look through :) Thanks
OK all parcelled up and ready for the post tomorrow :) ............i just hope it doesn't get stuck in a pickle where it's going ;)...........i know bad clue but i was never any good at cryptic :'(
OK clue number two.......this person shares a name with the Author of The savage mind who died in November of this year :)
Might it be Levi? :-\
MP
;D ;D ;D
Had to stop myself from saying It's Meeeeeee. The first clue would be hard for anyone who didn't know my address ;) These seed swaps are a bugger, you get all het up waiting and then have a quick panic about what you want/need from em, all good fun tho. :)
Yes it's levi :)
ok posted first thing this morning 1st class, :) :) :)
has the parcel landed?
Yes, or rather came home to 'the dreaded card'!! Will hopefully manage to collect after school-run tmrw but have just checked PO info and 15th was last date for standard parcels. Will I post it on? Advice please. :-\
That's the last day for posting parcels that need to arrive in time for Christmas. It shouldn''t (in theory) matter when a parcel is posted, it should still arrive, there are bound to be some delays because of Christmas. It will be a nice surprise for the first post after the holiday !!!
Alrighty, just a bit worried that it may go astray (last year caused so much disappointment). Will check the cost of sending it recorded just in case. Have been waitin on three swaps and was beginning to think I wouldn't see one before Chrissie but Santa/Asbean's started my Christmas early. Still got tons to do but will sort this asap. :) ;D :)
Levi - did you post it or are you hanging on to it till after Christmas ???
bump :) :) :)
Levi - your inbox is FULL !!!
bump :) :) :)
MP
Levi hasn't been on the forum since 23rd December. She didn't say she was going away over Christmas or anything, and her inbox is full. She may have had problems with her computer, or anything may have stopped her going online; see what happens when things get back to normal next week, as the children go back then and she did mention that she does the school run.
:-\ :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\
She's got her Email on her profile if anyone wants to try to get in touch that way.
:-\
I've emailed her. We just have to wait a while. If she doesn't respond to the email I'll drop her a line.
:-\ :-\ :-\
fingers crossed, I was hoping for another go round :-\
Any news on the seed parcel or Levi??
No reply to my email, I've sent her a note in the post which she should have got this morning (assuming her postman delivers, unlike ours lol). I'll give her till Tuesday or Wednesday and if I haven't heard anything then we'll have to assume it's over. Shame, it was so near the end too. Five disappointed people who wanted to participate and couldn't, myself who wanted to see how it ended up, 19 people who took the trouble to add more seeds and pass it on promptly, and all those who wanted to see it go round a second time.
We have to wait and see if she responds. She may have had problems (lots of people do at this time of the year) and we can't judge without knowing the facts. But it's not the first, others have gone astray in the past, it shouldn't stop other people taking on a parcel.
:'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
It's all gone quiet on Digeroos parcel too.... :(
Though the postal service at work has been rubbish over X-mas/NY anyway and then the weather happened....
chrisc
It may resurface soon as long as the last sender put their address on it. I sent a couple of parcels to my daughters' in Canada but forgot to put the apartment number on. One was returned to us (it was registered) and the other I expect in about three months time. A parcel I sent to my sister in Australia was also returned three months later because I forgot to put the house number on.......
Yeah, that will work - but only if the sender sends it. :-\ :-\ :-\
Keeping my fingers crossed.
What I meant to say was if the last sender is anything like me could have left something important off the addres - like house number. Do swaps go missing often as the parcels are quite large and I couldn't see anyone being able to use that many seeds.
All the addresses sent to me were copied and pasted from the messages. I also put in a set of labels with FROM on them, so the sender's name and address could be on the package too.
A well planned swap and hard to go wrong with a printed list, to and from sticky lables ready printed. In my opinion a really good swap and a shame if others do not see it.
However as Asbean says things sometimes happen.
still no news?
Nope, nothing.
I've tried emailing and letter writing, and no response. So I'm afraid we'll have to consider this package has come to an abrupt halt.
Sorry Anemone, you were next, then Actiongran, Suzanne, Tonybloke, and finally Jokey. Mpdjulie was going to take it over and send it round a second time.
Well, if miracles happen, she may decide to pass it on and all will be OK. As Suzanne said, she may have a lot on her plate and it got overlooked.
:'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
She's not been on the forum since before Xmas, which to me, with my sanguine view of human nature, suggests that something has happened to prevent her from doing so.
:'( :'( gutted

Has anyone tried googling her name ad address to see if a phone number is kicking around online?

Is there any news on the parcel?
:)
Lets be charitable - all I can think of is that something awful has happened in her life that has made the seed swap immaterial at the mo.
:'( :'( :'(
I hope this doesn't put anyone off starting another swap ... ... ... ??? ??? ??? ???
I am quite prepared to take on this seed swap as it seems that we are not going to continue with Asbeans parcel due to it being lost. I have to admit that I haven't got a lot of seeds to start the swap with, so does anyone have any ideas what I should do?
Julie
I could send you a few seeds if some others also can contribute a few it would soon make up a parcel.
This has given me a good idea, I think that if I do a parcel next year I will ask for contributions from people to start it off with.
I hope Levi is ok.
My parcel is still on the go and has two or three more to go, would those who missed out with like to be added to my list.

I think that's a good idea anyway as it means that the early people are getting a good selection too....

We've been doing seedswaps for years on A4A with no problems until last year and now this. I've been mulling it over and wondering whether we should do like Chriscross's swap - everyone sends their contributions and SAEs to the organiser along with things they want/don't want and the organiser divvies it all up and sends it out. Just an idea. Don't know what you all think?

Me too!
I think it's a real shame as I for one like the package lading on my mat and sitting with a cup of coffee perusing it's contents :-\
Of course. That's the best bit. Unpacking it all and looking at the different varieties and reading about them. Even if you don't actually want them it's fun exploring what's there. And trying to decide what, realistically, you will use and then going through your own stuff to decide what to put in the parcel. It's just great unless it breaks down halfway there.

I really love it when a parcel arrives, spending time having a lookie through and then choosing seeds I want to add in. Then a mad rush to the post office to get it back on its way the same day if poss.
The send your seeds in and they get sent back swap is good, exciting to have a total mystery, but I think it misses out on a little of the fun. They also seem to be specific, squash or tomatoes rather than all veg. You don't always know what you want until the choice is in front of you, it may be a case of just taking 2 or 3 seeds to try.
They mystery parcel going the rounds is good because people will include things which nobody would think of doing the more specialist ones. Oca is a good example, and the result is that more people get some tubers.
