Title: Any chance fo my strawberry runners this year?
Post by: chappy on October 05, 2009, 13:52:17
Hi all,

I was very late layering my strawberry runners into pots.  They have been pegged into soil for two weeks now and none seem to be "setting" is there any chance they might still work?

Very annoyed at myself for delaying now, if they will not work.

They will root, just slower. They'll catch up in the spring as well, dont give up hope on them ;)

Hi Chappy, I've just dug some from my mates plot and set them in, I made sure they had plenty of water as my soil was dry, raining today so they should be OK.  ;D ;D ;D

I treat strawberry runners very harshly......I just found room to plant out some plants that had been in pots all summer, so I cut off all the runners (which were quite small) and put them in a shallow tray of water for six days. At the end of that they had all produced some roots, so I put them in a seed tray of soil to grow on....haven't lost any so far, so don't worry! ;D
