Title: chicken Pellets and water
Post by: aggie on October 03, 2009, 09:51:06
Can I put chicken pellets into my water butts? I'm not sure if they will break down. Has anyone tried it.

Im sure they would but surely you would have concerns about strength?

Are chicken pellets slow release?

I just wondered if it would dilute and make a weak everyday feed for the greenhouse. I have no idea if they are slow release

I put mine in a bucket of water, and after about 4/5 days I top up the watering cans with the feed, and top up the bucket to keep the feed going until it gets too weak and start over again.
But if you leave it too long it really smells, so I personly wouldn't put it in something like a water butt as you may be left with the smell, flies and wasps and find its too much to get rid of.
Try it with something smaller and work your way up, if any of that makes sense.  :P      ;D ;D ;D

I sprinkle mine on the surface of the pots then forget about feeding till the next time.

Thanks cornykev

I'll try it in a large bucket leave it for 4/5 days and then top up the water can with it.
