Title: PSB Side Shoots
Post by: Digeroo on October 02, 2009, 09:25:06
Some of my PSB are producing side shoots, and a couple are sprouting strongly from the base of the plants.  Should this be encouraged or discouraged.

If you prick out the centre do you get more growth?

I'd leave well alone, certainly don't pinch out the top this late in the year.

My best crop, some years ago, was when the pigeons pinched the tops in july!
resulting plant was absolutely enormous, and gave fantastic crop in Jan/Feb

I may try pinching some out next year, I like the look of the couple if plants which had this happen by accident.

One plant also got knocked over and it has produced a whole row of little plants up the flattened stem.
