Does anyone know the last time we had a decent amount of rain to enjoy the growing of our plants?
I can think back to mid July when the rain was to much then, but we have had the driest September for a long time.
With the ground cracking up from the lack of a good amount of rain, and the hose pipe going all night to keep the plants from wilting. My veggies are looking a bit worse for ware at present.
When will this drought be over and allow us to start planning for the next years crop?
I want to get going with digging over my area and start with the winter cover to stop any weeds from getting a head start on my beds.
Lets see how long it takes to get a good thunder storm to end this.
Landimad, check out the no rain post in Edibles. ;D ;D ;D
I was at The Great Dorset Steam Fair at the beginning of September & trust me it bucketed down so much I never even got to the beer tent!
Poppy a monsoon wouldn't keep me from the beer tent. :P ;D ;D ;D
It's still pretty dry here landimad , should have had rain here in the S. E . today but did
the washing anyway --- all dry, going to put the hose on in the morning as Hydrangeas
are suffering and, ... I mowed the lawn today and got a tub of dust ! ???
Rain? What is rain?
We haven't had any for so long I have forgotten what it is!
It is absolutely as dry as a bone here!
Well,
I cannot see any in the forcast as yet.
It seems as though we are all in for a hard time with the hose and watering can.
Cannot mow the grass as the grass is not long enough to mow.
Borders are dried up and I have plenty of flowers which should not be dry, but I can have a display of those now.
Not even the weeds want to show themselves as they are so thirsty.
Even me fish are whinging that the pond is drying up.
It rained here over night but not enough to make any difference... :-X
It's raining now but then again it allways does then Nottingham's Goose fair is on.
i dont think its actually rained where i am for a year now, i'm in cloudy chester, the clouds just seems to blow over the house and drop on the city center..... nothing but clay 4 inches down and its always soggy have a really high water table, but digging out 6 hawthorn trees for my green house 2 months back the clay is solid to about 2 feet down where its "damp"
i'm just worried that all the rain that the country has had all falls in the same play saturating the river basins, and is we have a major storm all the water is just gonna run off the dry land and will bust all the rivers and we'll have worse floods than recent years. :'(
Had a light shower this evening, doubt it has made the slightest difference to the bit I want to dig :-\

Was great weather the last few days while I was there.
I don't know where you all live that's complaining about no rain but I could share some with you gladly. They say its been a good year for fruit. I guess that's in the South of England because everyone including myself around the Preston area has been complaining that we have all had bad crops of fruit like apples and pears etc and it's been a battle to keep the grass cut. Sorry folks thats my moan over.
Well it's forecasting heavy rain for Monday night, Tuesday and wednesday here- just hope it's right. I gave up trying to dig today! Jberry, my dad lives near Kendal and he has definitely had a lot more rain than we have.Pity wecan't share it evenly!
