In all my years gardening I have never had to put on the sprinkler in October until today- the drought continues.
The shape of things to come??
ditto here can't even remember when last it rained. great weather for me but really hard on the garden :-\.
Had some in Preston yesterday and it is forecast for tomorrow
I can't remember the last time we had any proper rain in Leeds, we've had the occasional bit of drizzle in the wind but nothing that would actually soak the earth and watering the garden on a cold autumn evening isn't much fun!
Very dry indeed here.
Sowed some carrots at the end of the second week of August and they have never seen the rain.
Had a teaspoonful of wet here the other day.
Its been very dry here too, I'm still having to water the plants in pots in the garden!
Being a bit of a saddo, I jot down the weather at the bottom of my diary each day, :P on the 1st and 2nd of Sep we had a few showers and up until now we have only had one day of rain in a month. :o ;D ;D ;D
The stream at the bottom of my plot has dried up.
A sharp shower on 1st September, lovely steady rain from noon till 7pm on the 2nd but since then - not a drop and all but one of my 6 water butts are empty. Even the scattered showers forecast for Saturday will not be enough to keep my celeriac happy. Hey ho - it looks like I'll soon have to use expensive tap water.
I, too, keep a record of the weather here in Torbay. It is often quite different to other parts of the country.
Tricia
My two main water butts are empty. :( We have a couple of mm forecast for tomorrow but that won't make much difference.
Out of rain water, grass hasn't be mown since June and is now white, soil is bone dry a whole spit down. They keep saying it will rain in a few days and then as the day arrives the rain slides a few days further off.
We have had what looks like a respectable quantity of rain overnight but not raining now although it is heavily overcast and the air is full of humidity.

And 12 miles south from Grawrc ....... its cats and dogs ::) ::)
The very occasional minute drop of liquid floated in the damp air this afternoon. Anyone know any good rain dances?
All we need is a few umbrellas, some nice deep gutters and Gene Kelly, ;D
windy with light rain tomorrow
By the end of this month you'll all be moaning that the soil is unworkable, and the thread will read when will this rain stop. :P :'( ;D ;D ;D
The Soil on my plot is Dry Water butts are dry No Taps on our plot so we can only use what what can carry up there !
Winter digging soon so hope it don't get to wet otherwise mine will flood !! :o
Tried to dig out trench for new raspberry canes, but could not hammer spade in. Dry for WEEKS. East Sussex.

That's not sad, Kev, that's normal. I've done it for years. One of the "old boys" on our site has weather records going back to when he de-mobbed in 1946. (Which way the wind was blowing, too!)
Could someone remind me what rain is please. ;D ;D ;D
Sky tears.........
swap ya ;D
done nothing but rain all day here, having a 'rest' day so been pottering around the house..still, the frost didn't arrive :)
Bucketing down here!
Went outside and found a very slight amount of damp around the place, wont last long in the wind and sunshine.
Loads of rain here, trouble is, it never knows when to stop!
ITS gagging to rain here, the skys are very dark and its very windy. :'( ;D ;D ;D
Spitting here, but the wind willdry up any damp we get. :(
Raining on the south coast this morning ;D ;D ;D
the rain has arrived. should make the plot easier to dig now.
Here too thank goodness.
right that's enough for now I need to go out and don't fancy a soaking walking along the seafront ::) , if it could start again tonight that would be appreciated :P
still nothing in Leeds, we had some drizzle over the weekend but as it came with gale force winds it didn't last long! It is forecast for tomorrow though so maybe my little garden will finally get the soaking it desperately needs, I feel so guilty constantly filling up watering can fulls every night!
:)don't worry digeroo the rain is on its way. How do I no? No work till a week on wednesday (which means no pay either :'() Already a steady drizzle here in Swindon. So from concrete to claggy by tomorrow. ::) Granddaughters birthday so more than my lifes worth to disappear today.
It rained for the first time in what seemed like three months, Friday evening.!!, i was so glad that i ran outside and took my socks off and danced about in it..
How sad is that..!!! ;D
Up until today no rainfall of any consequence for weeks. Seem to have made up for it since early this morning. It hasn't stopped :) Forecasters don't seem to be able to tell the time let alone the weather. Thought today was going to be ok with rain coming in later so planned to tidy up garden. Went to town instead and had my eyes tested ::). Glad it has rained as the plot is like digging into concrete.
It is raining today. Apart form a few heavy showers one day in September and a downpour in July this is all wev'e had in months. Our unlined pond - 8m x 5m x 90cms - has been dry since late July and the normally boggy ground rounds its edges too so I've had to keep my new gunnera in a bucket all summer. I grew loads of sweetcorn but it is quite floury and not at all juicy after a bone dry August with temps of 38C.
Yesterday I managed to plant out some plugs of curly kale and salad but couldn't get the dibber in to plant the leeks. The soil is too hard and dry for weeding and planting or even forking over.
The rain is forecast to stay all day and then turn showery tomorrow. I just hope we get enough to moisten everything so I can finally get around to starting the autumn weed clear up and bulb planting.
Its been raining since 8 o clock this morning, not very hard but steadily all day, I hoed all my weeds when the soil was bone drt, mind you if the rain stops tomorrow it will probably dry out in the wind. ;D ;D ;D
What is rain? ???
No rain in the midlands yet, though we are supposed to get some tonight...keep fingers crossed
the ground is wet :o/ shades x
We had some gentle rain yesterday afternoon and overnight; it's dry at the moment and we're hoping it will stay this way for the morning as we have a school visit to our allotments and wildlife area of the reception class from our local infants school
A bit of drizzle yesterday and a few spots at 6:30 this morning - better than nothing and it will keep my spinach seedlings happy.
I'm singing and dancing........raining for the second day in a row here :)
Wet wet wet in London - looking forwardto my bike ride to work in the refreshing rain!
Waterbutts are overflowing - yippee!!!
For the first time in weeks its totally honking it down around here! I just had to turn my tv up due to the sound of the rain :)
was going to take the newborn for a walk today but gladly trade that for some free irrigation ;D
Thank goodness too because when i went to the site the other day it was like the sahara!
It rained all morning in Leeds so hopefully it will have given the garden the soaking it needed.... unfortunately it also made my bus late for work but you can't have it all can you :)
A good steady rain here in Sussex & the grass is getting longer by the minute!
Rain at last ;D
Typical my garlic turned up to day as well (9 different varieties) after a 3 week wait :(
And its raining so cannot put it out ::)
Still raining here, I got soaked walking the four year old back home from school. ;D ;D ;D
It's been drizzly here. There was a bit of rain last night; not a lot, but enough to set the stream bubling away for the first time in weeks.
It dried up altogether last week, and that's always a worry. When it does so, the water table drops like a stone, but as soon as water starts flowing, it feeds back into the water table and bings it back up.
Some rain though I doubt it's penetrated very far into the soil. We've hardly had any this year I checked the rainfall records so far.
Raining hard at 6.30 this morning till about 10 am. Very grey and a little drizzle on and off all day. Whether it rains or not tomorrow the garlic and onions are going in. (Swindon,Wilts) ;D
Finally! Rain most of the day here, and in Manchester where I was on a course right next to the Tory conference- nice to see them all getting wet- serves them right for wanting to make us work another year!
:) our rain was rubbish today , but it's very warm and humid, wine on the patio sort of evening ;D/ shades x
Bit of a drizzle this morning. But ground still very dry.
We are supposed to get heavy rain overnight. I hope so I want it to soften the ground a bit so I can plant out my onion sets and garlic.
:) yippee, we have proper rain/ shadesX
At last---it rained through the night.
And there were muddy cat paws all over my sheets to prove it!!

Don't you just love them ;D ;D ;D
Big puddles down in Sussex now!
Ninny
It is piddling it down here in Salisbury. Has been most of the day.
Puddles here also in Enfield, my four year old asked me, why is it always raining, as we walked home from school. ??? :-\ :-* ;D ;D ;D
15mm that's it the ground is so dry it's just bounced off.
It's hammering it down here in Maidstone, which is great because we sure need it.
I have been in Swindon all afternoon and it has been peeing down. But back home a few miles north we have had some rain but not very much.
After weeks praying for rain I found myself wandering round Tescos car park trying to remember where I had put the car while failing to avoid several large puddles and wishing it would stop.

While cycling home in the wet I reminded myself firmly that I wanted rain.
3 days of rain here. I went to the supermarket very late last night, came home around 1.30am and it was so warm and humid. Weatherman today said it had been warmer overnight than during the day today.

yes the same thoughts yesterday while picking up daughter from school in wellingtons and umbrellas.
but this morning lovely warm sunshine, the garden looks very happy after its three day drink, the ponds are fulling back up and my water butts are half full :).
I think the moral of this tale is 'Be carefull what you wish for, you might just get it - in spades!!' ;D ;D ;D
Had over 30 mm this week in Dorset. After a month of nothing.
I blame climate change personally. Drought then flood seems to be the new order of things.
Water butt is full again, and the grass has decided to grow, for the first time since May I may actually have to cut it. I bet the weeds have shot up at the allotment.
Only regret: that I didn't finish my bean harvest while the pods were still bone dry.
