Title: Storing Manure
Post by: bison1947 on September 30, 2009, 20:00:47
Have deceided to get a few loads of horse manure
this weekend.
The supplier assures me that it is clean & free from any
Pesticides.
How should i store it till next year, should i put it on plastic
or put it straight on the on the ground in a heap so worms can get at it?

Also i will be doing this test next year befoe i use it.

Tnx in advance

Best bet would be to put on weed free ground, but then cover as much as possible to stop the rain leaching out the nutrients. This will also help it continue to ferment/mature should it not be completely broken down.

We've got two plots (not greedy only small) and we, actually he the OH knocks together a wooden frame which we use to store/rot the muck in every couple of years we/he dismantles it and rebuilds it on the other plot.We get smashing crops where the bins been previously and the OH loves knocking things together out of wood (delivered to the lottie by local recycle place, for everyone)I don't think he had a toy tool set as a boy  ;)

Macmac my OH is the same. He made a 56' fence out of pallets then 2 lovely compost bins with lats at the front, just used pallets for the lids on those as our manager got us a 40% discount on wood. I don't like letting him loose with a hoe though, especially when I've just planted seeds ;).
