I picked an onion especially to fry to have with my burger about three weeks ago. Whilst I was eating it I thought it was a bit strong. that night I had awful heartburn, a thing I have not had for years as I take medication to stop the problem. then y stomache started gurgling. I suffered for two weeks then got a fever and now have sick/diar (can't spell it). I feel terrible. could the onion be the cause do you think. I have so any stored. I can't bear to think of them. I have been to the doctors who are testing to see what the problem is but I am in agony!!!
I would think that unless you are allergic to onions I would suspect the burger.
I have never had problems with onions and I suffer with acid reflux. I wouldn't dare to eat a burger or anything fatty or I would pay for it.
The only way we get to eat onions in late spring, once the stored ones have finished, is to pick as needed early from the overwintered onion bed - we frequently eat them on the same day, although thinking about it, they are always cooked. I hope that is helpful.
Anyway I hope you recover quickly :)
QuoteI would suspect the burger
I agree with totatoada, and have experience, cooked burger well, but then put it back on the same plate, oops, next day, suddenly felt ill, and then threw up lots :-[
Hope you are better soon.
I'm going for the burger as well - dodgy stuff minced beef...........
Hope you feel better soon :-*
i agree with the others that its more than likely the burger than the onions i have very severe acid reflux and can eat cooked onions picked fresh from the plot with no problems.
Thanks for your replies. i thought it was the onions as that is the taste that repeated on me. I guess it could have been the burger. Rest of the clan okay though!!! they had onions too.
My mum is very allergic to onions, maybe I have just developed it! Hope not as i grow them like crazy!
I think really I am clutching at straws! Ta anyway.
home grown onions are a lot stronger than shop bought ones,
If I use 2 shop ones in cooking I use 1 home in cooking.
I made the mistake the other week and used 2 home ones there was a lot of gas in our house oh.
Different sets vary from mild to strong.
Sister grew strong ones oh are they strong but lovely.
I trust it was an onion bulb and not a daffodil!
Or maybe a gall bladder attack after a fatty meal? If it happens again after a heavy fat meal...get an ultrasound.
Hope you feel better soon.
