I want to grow watercres in a bath. Is that a goer? Any hints? Where do I get watercress plants from?
Julia
I think watercress has to be grown in runiing water. Actually, i've never given it a thought until right now. so what do I know :D
I've grown it in a washing up bowl. You don't need to buy plants, just get a bag of it from the supermarket and stick the ends in water and it will root really easily. If you let it set seed, you'll have an endless supply. Here's an RHS article - be sure to read the part about water supply and liver fluke.

Thanks Ceres I've bookmarked that one & will give it a go.
I've got a semi-shady spot in one corner of my polytunnel where I grow my watercress. Despite no running water it seems to do well here as the soil does not dry out too quickly. I do try and remember to give it a water once a week during the summer. I left some plants go to seed and as ceres has said you get a great crop of seed.
Have you tried Cress Wrinkled Crinkled? Sown now on any spare ground and you will have greens all winter, so fuss. Dig in spring as a good green manure. No messing with buckets, bowls or baths.
It grows like a weed. Actually I think it is a weed.
Available from Marshalls and Nickys nurseries.
I've grown land cress this year. Just keep it well watered and it romps away. Great to just go outside and cut for cheese sandwiches!
and self seeds everywhere... ::)
how can anyone eat landcress? it's disgusting......(IMHO) NO not IMHO, It's disgusting Full Stop ;D
I've grown Mr F's Watercress Aqua in containers. It just needs to be moist, so normal watering is fine.
I haven't got to the stage of letting the land cress seed as OH and I have been eating it and find it tasty!
However normally I would grow watercress in the waterfall of my pond with great success. This has two advantages, one obviously to eat, the second is that the nutrients in the cress stop blanket weed from growing!
