Title: Outdoor tomatoes -What would you do.
Post by: Paulines7 on September 26, 2009, 10:39:44
I have some very large beefsteak type tomatoes growing in the garden.  I was very late planting them and they are still green.  I bought some in and they eventually ripened on the windowsill.

Should I now pick them all and bring them indoors or leave them to see if they ripen in the garden?  By picking them now, will this affect the flavour?

Your help in this matter is much appreciated.

As long as there are no signs of disease then leave them. The weather forecast is good so make the most of it.  If it`s anything like here they will need watering-I`m in the middle of a drought

I'd say leave them too.  To me, the taste is never the same ripening off the plant so if the plant is healthy and the forecst is good, let them get on with it!

Thanks Cleo and Ceres.  I will go and tie them up then and take off some more leaves.  Some of the plants are so heavy that they have fallen to the ground!
