Title: Collecting sweet pea seed
Post by: caroline7758 on September 26, 2009, 08:13:54
I collected lots of pods from my plants a couple of weeks ago and put them on a container on my windowsill. If the pods don't pop open on their own is it ok to pop them myself or are they unlikely to be viable? Or am I just being impatient?

Caroline. Were the pods brown and dry when you picked them If so then they will be ok. The peas inside should be brown not green. If you want to look then crack open the pod on the outer side not the side that the peas are attached to and you will see what colour they are. ;D

Caroline,

I always used to collect my seed in different colours and sizes so as to be sure that I grew the ones I wanted.
They all had their own coloured containers to ripen off then I would crack them open when the rain fell, that helped me coping with the bad weather we get in the autumn.
My shed was the hanging gardens of my lottie when I was collecting stuff.
Every beam had something of worth hanging off it and boy was there a lot to hang.

Yes, the pods were all brown and dry, and the seeds inside are brown, so hopefully they should be ok. Thanks!
