I like to try and propogate a few things over the winter period and last year produced several grape vines (about 20) which made great gifts. I am thinking of doing something similar again but am a little stuck for ideas. I recently got given a very small fig tree and have looked into propagating them but my tree is too small to start chopping up. I might go on the look out for an over-hanging branch and snip some of that!
My question is whether anyone has any other good ideas for propagation of plants/trees that might be useful on the plot? I appreciate all ideas!

I've done some extra strawberry runners, found some troughs for 49p so they're going to be extras for people ;D
I've propagated rosemary, sage, lavender, geraniums, and also I've split pots of mint up into smaller bits, and was wondering about trying some cuttings from the bay tree in the garden
and then there is always bamboo.... :P ;D ;)
When your fig tree is bigger, you could try putting a brick on a low branch to pin it to the ground. It will soon root and the branch can then be cut off. I've done lots this year and it's very easy.
we did lots of gooseberries last year, I believe blackcurrants are easy too, bit long winded though :-\
thanks all
Today I took cuttings of gooseberry and josterberry and rosemary - I feel alot better for it! Could make some wonderful presents too!

PS - Not an expert on bay so someone might be along with a failsafe method ;)
nice to hear you had a good time PSI !
So maybe I'd be better waiting till Spring for cuttings from Bay then ?
