Title: seeds on offer - possible swap
Post by: vjm63 on September 20, 2009, 20:51:56
First time I've done this, so be gentle, please!!

I have accumulated some flower seeds I am basically unlikely to use - so they are looking for a good home.

from amateur gardening magfazines  - 2009 collection - all T+M seeds;

Sweet william - Excelsior mixed - no date I can see;
Nicotiana - Marshmallow - no date I can see;
Dianthus - Siberian blues - no date I can see;
Sunflower - Pastiche - no date I can see;

T+M Agastache anisata 'Mexican hyssop' - I think also from AG - no date I can see;

Mr Fothergill's:
Rudbeckia - Marmalade    sow by 2011;
Amaranthus Ribbons and beads   sow by 2010.

All packets unopened - no idea whether they would gerninate or not.

Frankly i am not so much into flowers, more into veg - so if anyone has any tomatoes they can recommend (blight resistant!!) or anything else they can suggest... I am currently limited to a small area of garden, but am dreaming of an allotment...

Thanks,

Vicky

dont know of any blight resistant tomatoes,but a spraying of copper solution once they set flower
is a good deterant(stops the spores sticking to the leaves)but not full proof.
      good luck with your allotment when it comes along

VJM63 I'm surprised that nobody is interested in any of the seeds that you're offering!

I think that as you only have a small area of garden it's best to grow what you really like.  As for blight resistant tomatoes is there such a variety!

Good luck with getting an allotment!

I would love some rudbekia and nicotiana if that is possible.

Is there anything you would like from me - have a selection of seeds so if you let me know what you would be interested in I will see if I can oblige.

Well, thanks for the interest!  The rudbeckia, sunflowers and nicotiana are on their way when I get addresses, but other things still up for grabs.

This place IS friendly - thanks!

Thanks will pm you my address.

On the subject of tomatoes - have you tried cherry or currant tomatoes grown in hanging baskets - my friend did and she didn't suffer from blight.  Would you like a couple of currant toms (Hundreds and Thousands) to try?

Hi Lottie Lou,

Yes, please - if you do not mind, that would be great.  Some rudbeckia and nicotina on its way to you.

1066 - I have ready some seeds to send to you as well, if you could pm me your address?

Thanks.

Re: blight resistant tomatoes.

Somewhere I read that small-fruit tomatoes (perhaps cherry type or smaller) are more resistant to blight.

Blight resistent tom  :o
I haven't tried these but Ferline from T&M are alleged to have good blight tolerance. http://www.capitalgardens.co.uk/v3/tomato-ferline-hybrid-seeds-p-7127.html (http://www.capitalgardens.co.uk/v3/tomato-ferline-hybrid-seeds-p-7127.html)
I'll be trying some next year

H there

welcome to the swap shop.  you will find some lovely people on this forum and get lots of new seeds to try to boot then if you like them you can splash out on a whole packet. It is very addictive though so be warned!!

I have some seeds for Black Japanese Trifle which I believe Raymond Blanc said was the best tomato he had tasted.  It also proved to be the only tomato that did not get blight this year together with a Victorian heritage variety - can't think of the name at the moment - sorry - a senior moment.  Will send you some if you are interested.

I would love a pinch of all the seeds below if you still have.  Send me your pm

Sweet william - Excelsior mixed - no date I can see;
Nicotiana - Marshmallow - no date I can see;
Dianthus - Siberian blues - no date I can see;
Sunflower - Pastiche - no date I can see;

T+M Agastache anisata 'Mexican hyssop' - I think also from AG - no date I can see;

Mr Fothergill's:
Rudbeckia - Marmalade    sow by 2011;
Amaranthus Ribbons and beads   sow by 2010.

I am going to concentrate on a cutting flower garden this year so have bough all SR books for some inspiration and will be reading them this winter to get ideas.    Let me have your pm and I will send you some.

Hi all,

Thanks for being so kind offering me seeds in swops, everyone - and being so welcoming!   Just to let you know that all the seeds I listed in the first post are now all gone.

If/when I get any more surplus, I'll know what to do... ;D ;)
