I have three different type of toms this year :- moneymaker and two different types that i can't tell which is which :-[ I love one and the other is just ok, would i be best to dry out the seeds from the one i love (rather that plant both and not know which is which) and if so can someone please give me an idea how best to dry out my own seeds.
i',m sure there has already been posts on this but what toms does everybody grow and why? i use the money maker for soups and sauces but want a tom/cherry tom that i can just take off and eat :-\

I grew 28 varieties this year to find some 'keepers' - the cherry I'll be growing again is Black Cherry.

If all 3 types were growing in the same plot/greenhouse, then there may be some cross pollination, so they might not come true to type from saved seeds.
If any were F1 hybrids, they will not come true to type either.
On the bright side, you may come up with an amazing new variety.. Good Luck.
I had some black cherry seeds in a swap here a few years ago.......only they didn't turn out black, and they didn't turn out cherry ;D

I would advise extreme caution-saving seeds is not difficult but you have the dreaded MM.

pretty sure they weren't from you saddad. They turned out like a normal tomato from the grocers - quite a novelty in our garden :D
Saving tomato seed is easy, but there are plenty of better varieties then moneymaker! The simplest way is to smear the pulp and the seeds over a kitchen tissue, and dry it out. If you want to clean the seeds, squeeze a few toms out into a jar, and add water. Leave it until there's a crust of mould on top. The mould produces enzymes which break down the sticky round the seeds. Take the mould off the surface, and swill the contents under a tap till there's nothing left but seeds. Don't bother about any seeds which float, as they won't germinate anyway.
