Title: Pumpkins detached too early?
Post by: Kendy on September 15, 2009, 23:36:42
Couple of my pumpkins have become detached from the plant - will they be OK to store for a few weeks - they weren't very big and not fully orange.

Also, how long can you keep pumpkin in the freezer as we still have quite a bit from the last year in the chest freezer ?

I am new to this myself but I harvested a few of my winter squashes and am leaving them in a sunny windowsill to harden off. So fingers crossed they will be ok. I only know you are supposed to harvest before the frosts, but I think earlier is still ok. Ate one and it was tasty (a blue hubbard). No idea about the colour issue though.

I'm doing the same as Tish, the ones which had become detached / where the plant had all but died off, are now on a sunny window sill. No need to freeze them, they can keep for months. I'm sure someone with much more experience than me will be along shortly ...  :D
