Title: Thermidrome garlic
Post by: Tin Shed on September 13, 2009, 14:58:31
The lottie shop had Thermidrome garlic bulbs for sale this morning so I bought a couple of bulbs.
What is it like - has anyone grown it before?
Also like the sound of German Red which according to the details has a rich hot spicy flavour - anyone tried them - to grow and to eat ;D

Hi Tin shed,
Never grown Thermidrome, but grew German Red two years ago and it was fab (it smelt slightly like smoked sausage).  Managed to save a few of the cloves cloves to grow again this year and got good results - lucky I did because the supplier (Dobies) was no longer supplying and I cuold not manage to source anywhere else.  I'll keep a few back again to replant in Oct/Nov.

FYI - its a hard neck variety.

German Red is obviously as good as the descriptions I have read - sounds if it would make wonderful garlic bread :D

I grew thermidrome this year and was really pleased with it.  Big cloves, has stored well and is strong flavoured. Still juicy as well, even after been in storage. Have enough left to plant out this autumn as well.
;)

Going to try Therador this year - trouble is I believe everything the sellers say :)

"A new organic autumn garlic. It is a non stalk forming type with white and pink skin. It is more productive than Thermidrome producing bigger bulbs"
