Title: Ripe squash
Post by: grannyjanny on September 13, 2009, 07:51:58
What colour should Kabocha squash be when ripe? I saw some in the supermarket & they were described as green kabochas, they were quite small compared to the ones we have grown & ours are starting to turn orange underneath.

If you do a google search, it appears that there are both green and orange skinned varieties.

I think the general rule for all winter squash is to leave them on the vine till the foliage has died back - unless, of course, frost is forecast.
