Unfortunately due to working away and my Dad being ill, I've not been planning ahead and am about to get loads of bare soil.
I have got a few brussels sprouts, leeks and purple sprouting broccoli planted but little else to go through the winter. Am I too late now? and should I start getting something in for next year?

can plant onion sets & garlic in the next few weeks.....
possibly peas an broad beans for an earlier crop next year...
winter lettuce under cloches, maybe even a quick crop of radish....
ebay has some great bargains on plug plants. Next plot to me has just been relet and she has bought something like 100 plugs for under a tener as she has nothing else to plant.
Thanks - I still have to dig out this years garlic!!! (will be trying to get it out today).
Did I mention Winter Radish? ;D
You can also sow saladini ... the oriental salads and chicories ... and of course winter lettuces. ;D
Spring cabbage and spring onions
what are the best varieties of lettuce to grow over winter?
and is it best to sow them in situ or start them off in modules as i do with summer ones?
I've got rouge d'hiver, winter density and bronze arrowhead which I intend to sow in situ with slug protection.
