here's a lonk to some photo's of our local flower show today, mostly chrysanths and dahlias, plus veg and other flowers/plants.
;)
Lovely pics of lovely produce- did you win anything?
Some beautiful colours and the veg look good. Thanks for sharing.
That was lovely Tony!
Who ever produced those roses should get a medal after the wet & windy weather we have had lately.
With the Chrysants I see that the preferance seems to be with Incurves and Intermediates but not reflexes.
I notced quite a lot of the Dahlias were a bit young but those Kiwis were very good!
Liked to see the scales were at the ready I guess they were for the under 8oz class.
I noticed they hadn't been judged when you took the pictures. In some classes the produce judged themselves whereas in others the judge had a bit of work on his/her hands.
Overall I loved it!
I felt I had been there so thanks for going to the trouble of producing the pictures & slide show
glad you liked the show!
yes TeeGee, not a lot of reflexes, but plenty of incurves and intermediates, (I was the steward for the chrysanths, judged by our local international judge!, I certainly learned a lot about staging and showing flowers)
the scales are for the onions, both for the ' 250 gms and under' and the ' 251 gms and over' classes.
thanks for the thanks, I always enjoy your slide-shows, glad you enjoyed mine!!
Yep great pics Tony :)
Terrific! It was our show on Saturday where I was a steward for the first time. Like you I leant a lot!
Wonderful pics Tony, it's so lovely to see other shows. (Should have had my daughter take piccies of the tables before the judging - note to self for next year ;))

Yes this is how I learned much of what I know!
In fact we always encouraged any newbies in our society to act as steward for this very reason, I don't think there is a better way to learn.
It takes away that old chestnut of
'why didn't that exhibit win? ' as often said after judging.
Simply because the judge will indicate to the steward the imperfection he/she has seen that the viewing public ( and possibly the exhibitor) don't see.
Its those imperfections that make the difference between a prize or no prize.
It also helps in the event of an exhibitor having a greivance.........the steward can explain the reasons for the judges judgement after he has gone!
How do you respond if an exhibitor goes off complaining that everyone's cheated to deny them the prize?

With difficulty I guess but then again I have never had to!
I think most exhibitors would accept that the steward is only doing what is potentially a difficult job, added to which if the steward is an novice they would accept his/her explanation.
If they don't then I don't think much of the exhibitor!! ::)
I've had to deal with it, and no, it's not easy.
