They look in wonderful condition for ex-batts. :)  Do the 'not-so-baldy-anymore' ladies have names yet?

Hi all,

All but one has been laying everyday  ;D We have now put boards all around the the base to the height of about 2 feet my dog was far to interested at trying to find a way in  :-\ So they are much safer now also we are going to put a roof on as one of them is managing to leap off the walk way onto the fence wire but so far has jumped back down into the coop!!

We let them out everyday they have a long play in the garden before they put themselves to bed  :D I love watching them have a dust bath was really worried the first time they did it. They had practically buried themselves and were so still i thought they were dead ::)

Not really named them, one we call bolshy as she is the first to come up and tell you off if she's not happy with something i swear she would be a better guard dog than our dog Angus  8)

I am today planning to go and get some bark to put in the run in preparation for when the rain comes? Is this the best thing to use?

Thanks lucy

Hi no pics of the inside yet will try and get some uploaded today some time. Very basic though have 2 nest boxes 13" x 13" made out of some MDF we had lying around then woodshavings in the base of the coop. We have a round roosting bar made from a old wooden curtain pool about 18" off the base of the coop. I have found that 2 of my ex bats still bed down in the corner of the coop or on top of the nest boxes  ;D 2 lay in the nest box and one still lays out side but that's quite normal.

My kids and i love them such funny little characters. Not to mention plenty of fresh eggs  ;)

yes they can be quite expensive  but we used mostly reclaimed wood to keep costs down :)

Just read that bark isnt good because it can end up growng mould which isnt good for the chickens but to use chippings instead!

just read this on a site and it made me chuckle  ;D

"One of their favourite games is 'Dare'. This is either running accross the direction of your strimmer or getting the worm out the ground before the spade goes in again."

Haha that made me chuckle too  ;D

I love the way they follow you around the garden a suddenly start packing away when you come to a stop, like they have to eat all the goodies before you do. It doesnt seem to matter how many times i tell them i dont like worms they still do it  :P

we use the blue, plastic boxes from lidl for our nest boxes, I can take them out and clean them..they all seem to like the 2 same spaces though  ;D

We found straw the best for inside the house and we now add our shredded paper to it.  At least our junk mail now has a useful purpose!!  ;D
