Thanks for the link, I always enjoy reading Helen Yemm because it's clear she is actually a 'real' gardener. Query from that article: don't you have to net Autumn raspberries, then? Do blackbirds lose the taste for soft fruit after August?

I don't net my summer raspberries either...don't seem to have a bird problem on the raspberries they're too busy eating the other fruit if they can ::).

We never net our summer or autumn raspberries. Its not the birds its the maggots that we have to contend with
