Title: Dirty thieving rotten barstards
Post by: cornykev on August 31, 2009, 21:23:27
I went to the lottie after being away for a week and some dirty lowlife, no good thieving shitbag has taken two of my pumpkins that my four year old has been nurturing since day one.
Others on site have had sweetcorn, onions, spuds, carrots, caulies and cabbages stolen.
If they'd taken any of these off of my plot I wouldn't be so bothered but I've had to tell her that I'm storing them in my shed, they left one behind but it was slightly damaged so I have put this one in my shed.
Is there anything I can do to seal the damage, will it seal itself or is it doomed and I have to buy one at Halloween.

You are quite welcome to have my pumpkin, I don't even like pumpkins.  It was there OK today, so if it is still there tomorrow, you are welcome to it.  P.S. Don't tell Manuel, but he still has 40 left.

It's bad enough for us when our produce is thieved but even worse for a littl'un.   >:(

I fear if the skin is broken on the one that's left, it will just rot.  Mine get bird pecked and that's what happens.

That's a lovely offer from borlotti, A4A to the rescue  :)

You are a darling Borlotti, I don't eat them either it was just that the little un wanted to grow some and decorate them for halloween. I thought it would rot but hoped someone would come up with a remedy Ceres.    ;D ;D ;D    :-*

I posted elsewhere about repairing the stem of a pumpkin that I broke when I planted it out with an elastoplast and it worked, so nothing to lose by maybe slapping a bit of gaffer tape on and see what happens or paint the area with clear nail polish?

Its that time of year !!! every year pumpkins are stolen or just smashed by mindless idiots who do not have any idea how upseting it is to take so long to grow them !!
I just dont grow them anymore and will make sure all my marrows are picked before the middle of september!
Its a sad fact of life that some people just cant keep there hands to themselves !
We have a theif on our site at the moment and as the site is locked 24/7 it leads us to think its a plot holder which feels even worse  :'(
Lovely offer for the little girl that is the spirit of allotments  :)

I did a patch up job on a mutilated Atlantic Giant last summer, with PVA. ;)  It stopped rot setting in & the gouged bit was turned to the wall come Hallowe'en... The three year old owner never noticed a thing.  8)

(If the PVA hadn't worked I was thinking of spray mount or aerosol varnish... )

That is really awful Kev, I hope the one you rescued manages to survive.

There are some really mean people about, but thank goodness for the ones like Borlotti who are so thoughtful.

I am not really that nice, just grew the pumpkin for fun (actually Manuel made me plant it in my compost heap) and if someone appreciates it, saves me making all that soup.

I would have been spitting venom like Corny thieving shits, but because of the press coverage  and every other report on local telly about allotments and what fun it is to grow your own until some barstool nicks it personally I think there is more of this  to come up and down the country,

Happened to me and my little boy Archie last year - he couldn't understand why half of our pumpkins were broken into pieces.

Still, half of them were not damaged, made good lanterns out of them + some spicy soup.

:)

Good news on securing some replacements. :D Hopefully the little 'un won't notice the switcheroo...

What's the plan for next year, a bear pit around the pumpkin patch? :(

Well an update, the damaged Pumpkin has not healed itself, the rot has gone from the size of a fifty pence to egg size, so we will be having soup with this one.
The one Borlotti's friend Manuel gave us has already be souped, will the shell keep and in what conditions until halloween, I was saving this but the OH had other ideas.
Borlotti's one will be taken down to my club and we are going to do a guess the weight for charity, pound a go sounds about right.
Others on site had quite a few bits go missing, they reported it to the council and the community plods but I might as well have told the brick wall.
:( :( :(

I know what you mean about telling a brick wall. Sorry to hear about your pumpkins.

Surely the main suspects for the theft and damage mentioned in Flighty's link would have to be those entering in the same categories  in the show?
