Hi folks! and thanks for the good wishes. All in all a little bit scarey! Not only a biggly birthday but today is my last official workday (except it's not really since i stopped on Friday). The kids will be arriving shortly, the champagne is chilling and I've made no plans today for the allotment. Life starts in earnest tomorrow.

Happy Birthday from me too from the Alsace in France. I will drink to your health tonight. (Any excuse to get the wine bottle out.....eh, not that I need an excuse whilst on holiday. Enjoy your day.
Ooooh just what I need....an excuse for a celebration. ;D
Many congratulations Anne, on the birthday and retirement. Have a great time today, and ever and ever. ;D

Happy birthday! Enjoy your retirement, which I'm sure you'll find will keep you busier than ever! xx
Happy birthday, Anne and best wishes on your retirement! Hope you've had a lovely day with your family. I'm sure the day will be tinged with sadness as you think of the plans you made for retirement with your dear husband, but hope you can look forward and have lots of new plans for yourself xx
Thank you all for those kind thoughts and good wishes! The young folk wanted to take me out for dinner but given all the allotment produce I have and that I've been watching "economy gastronomy", I suggested that we stay at home and make dinner. So we had what I suppose is my signature dinner: smoked salmon parcels with a chilli, avocado and mango salsa, roast leg of lamb with dauphinoise potatoes and broad bean and baby plum tomato stew, and vanilla panna cotta and blueberry sauce. Everyone helped and what good fun we had, drinking champagne with hibiscus flowers the while!!
Now, in the sober light of a dull, rainy and windy Edinburgh morning, I'm just wondering what my former colleagues are up to - hee hee - while I sip on a cup of tea and plan the day!! It still hasn't really dawned I can now choose to do whatever I want!!
glad you all had a good time, anne..sounds like a lovely meal and a happy family time..I don't think you'll be sitting for long..too much to do ;D
Sorry I missed it yesterday Grawrc, looks like you had a good un, right what are you going to do with yourself now. ;D ;D ;D

Sorry i missed it we have been away for a few days, now you have retired you will be busier than ever you will wonder how you had the time to go to work, i know i did. ;D ;D ;D
a very happy belated birthday, and congratulations on your retirement!
Thanks again! I spent yesterday tidying my plot and lifting potatoes till the rain came. This morning I've been spending some birthday and retirement money.
I've ordered fruit trees from Blackmoor and asparagus from T&M. They've got a new sort that's produced in Canada called Guelph Millennium. I read up about it and it seems really good so I thought I'd give it a bash. I'm getting a new greenhouse built from my old windows so I'm having to resite the asparagus bed.
Also dispensing with one of my sheds and the old greenhouse so I have room for a dedicated fruit area. I'll be moving my blackcurrants and goosegogs and adding redcurrant and whitecurrant as well as cordon pears. Blueberries will go outside the shed in big pots and at the bottom of the plot I'm planting cherry, damson and mirabelle. Woohoo!!
When all that is done and the new central grass path seeded I guess it'll be time to think Xmas! ;)
A Happy belated birthday and best wishes for your retirement! It sounds like you had a wonderful day
