Sadly this doesnt suprise me, its what I expected for a company selling cheap food.
Food isnt cheap to produce so they have to cut costs somewhere to make it more 'attractive' to the buyer.
the grauniad strikes again!!
so we have a 'farnham' in norfolk?
if the paper can't even get 'fakenham' correct, I'm sorry, the rest of the story is probably as accurate!!
and, so what if they charge for carrier bags? one way or another you pay for them, nothing is free in the harsh world of supermarkets.
( I personally have NEVER been on any tesco sites, not even on their car-parks)
Bol***ks to the staff, just keep the prices down. They don't have to work there.

I'm not quite sure that you're serious - but in case you are, no, whatever job you're in you deserve to be treated decently.

That's how you pronounce fakenham if you read the Guardian.....

Quoteneatly stacked shelves in Tesco
Read the article and had a laugh over the neatly stacked shelves bit. I remember Tesco when I was a child and it was worse than Lidl is now. The store was small and scruffy and the goods were piled up still in their boxes, and there were large knives hung on pieces of string so that you could cut a hole in new boxes.
The staff turnover in Lidl appears to be high. Many of the staff are foreign, I suppose once they have some experience and improve their English they get a job somewhere else.
They mostly have very few tills open. Cirencester Store is ok but in Swindon the staff often seem to have dirty shirts.
But some of their goods are great. Have not bought jam anywhere else for years.
Their strong flour is O.K. too.

If they are weak enough to put up with it. It is their own fault. I wonder how many of them were union knockers once!
Our local Lidl store is clean, tidy and well stocked, they have a fast turnover in fruit and veg so they're stuff is always fresher than Asda sadly greengrocers are few and far between here (WSM) The staff are smashing and I've seen the same faces there for ages.I used to work for Tescos (I can hear the hissing from here)and I know how difficult recruiting good staff can be.I'm sure they vary from store to store ,you'll always get extremes in working conditions ,myOH worked at a local airport before he retired and some of the conditions they worked under were unbelievable so it's not just retail
I used to live out of that Lidl in Manchester. It meant that I could afford to smoke & drink the rest of my student loan!
I didn't read the whole article as it's a bit long... appears to be saying that a large supermarket chain isn't very nice? What exclusives will they come up with next? "Bear decides not to poo in the open", "Pope decides being a Muslim isn't for him"...
I use Lidl quite frequently and I find that the staff appear to be very happy. I have worked on a checkout and there is nothing worse than having a slow day(as we used to call them) we all used to love the busy days cos the time just flew by. That was working for Quiksave the worst of them all for getting their pound of flesh

This is precisely why unions exist. Not everyone has a Nietzschean 'Will to Power' or is quite so mercenary about selling their labour. Besides which, it's not like the market for unskilled manual labour is particularly appealing just now...
Not in the least bit surprised, it is the nature of capitalism, similar complaints can be found about many many companies.
As for breaches of the working time directive, it's rife in the NHS too, with all manner of tricks employed to get round the clear intent of the law, while securing round the clock coverage.
This is an old story! Both Aldi and Lidl are particularly hard on their staff, and have always been.

Not for me, I just have a short attention span... But if you need help with the longer words or finding motivational pictures, I'll try to help!
