Title: Theiving little...
Post by: tim_n on August 26, 2009, 13:42:05
Recently it's been of note that my plot is being harvested by someone other than me.  I've lost (unripe) cobs of corn, spagetti squash, tomatoes, leeks, lettuces, cucumbers, gooseberries etc.

Others have noticed losses around their plots as well, so I'm not the only one.  I've only got a half plot and I'm not a poor person, I can afford to buy things at shops and if they're that desperate for food, then they're welcome to it, I just wish they'd ask me.

Its just annoying looking forward to eating your produce and planning a meal round it to come home and find the flippin' things nicked!

They don't like raspberries though the birds do however.

A little sign that says ' Warning! sprayed with antinikinpest, please do not harvest for 5 days' should keep them off for a while.

It usually gets worse as the nights get darker sooner,  more so around Christmas time when veg is more expensive

We have had problems on our site this year strangely since two new members took on plots. Personally I would give them stuff if they asked for it, I hate people stealing. We know who  the thieves are but need the proof, one day they will get caught as all thieves get over confident. In the mean time I have treated certain plants with a substance that will give them the  RUNS.  ;D ;D :o

I would delete this post if I was you. Naturally you are enraged, but what you have done could get you a prison sentence and even a claim for compensation from the 'victim' and if a small child was to take something in all innocence you will have the book thrown at you. If somebody also had an allergic reation to your 'medicine' and dies. you will be done for murder and it will not be hard to prove with this the statement you have made to the world.

what goes around comes around! I won't do anything to the people who are stealing, I'm just disappointed in them.  Everyone in the plots around me know that I'm fairly generous and give stuff out.

I hate the brussel sprouts, I know my wife would be disappointed if they 'disappeared' but I'd be delighted.

I, like many others, are happy to share surplus with people. There's no need to nick it.

I work for a company that has a grounds maintenance contract with an east london borough, and all their allotments suffer from stealing, and on quite a big scale as well. They are now raising the heights of the fencing around some to try and prevent this happening.
