I rang around 10 allotments today to be told they all have a 2-3 year waiting list, when i rang the final one, i was told he didn't do waiting lists because he was fed up of people not notifying him of when they no longer wanted a plot, anyway to cut a long story short he said he is just clearing a plot left by someone who left it unmanageable and once it is done it is mine all mine!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D
Well done you. It is a great feeling ;D
Congrats jordsbabe.........
If you like asparagus - March isn't that far away to put your crowns in (my only regret from year 1) ;)
How long before you get the keys?
Linda
about a month hopefully because the plot was left in such an awful state, so hopefully alot of the hard work will be done for me!
As you'll probably have read many a time on here, don't knock yourself out, nice and easy does it.
...and don't forgot the before and after piccies ;)
Linda
I'm hoping for a similar story! I've just applied to our local council and am told there are 400 on the waiting list, BUT, when the plots are inspected this month, any that are abandoned and "challenging" will be up for grabs by anyone on the list, with those filling in the form most convincingly winning the prize! I'm hoping that my enthusiasm doesn't wane before I actually get my hands on my very own wilderness to tame!
Congratulations and hope the reality lives up to your anticipation!
Hate to think of people sitting out there on waiting lists.Good luck. :)

Why don't you go and offer to help you may get it sooner
I get quite angry when I look around some of the uncultivated plots on our site when there are folks out there waiting for one >:(
I read somewhere if you go to visit the site always carry your spade in your boot.
Shows you're keen :)
Or have a carrot tucked behind your ear ;D

If a plot has been uncultivated for a long period cutting back the top growth and bagging up rubbish is the easy bit! I Would volunteer to get down and help/do it yourself. Perhaps ask to provide a skip/trailer etc if they are agreeable to that. You may be waiting around for moving the rubbish, which could be done in a few days and allow you to get down to the real work more quickly.
Well done on getting the plot. You will love it! ;D
Great news !! ;D
I'm also in favour of being there during the clearing process ... they might strim "goodies" like rhubarb and fruit bushes :o
... there might even be some winter veg !! ;)
Well done. Getting the rubbish cleared and starting the real work is always great. You'll love it all ;D
Jolly good. You are not so far from me. Nice area. I had a lovely meal near you last week at a country pub. BEST OF LUCK.

Well done, good luck.
Hope you do well with it and enjoy every moment.
;D ;)
As others have said Jordsbabe go and offer to help.
1. You will get to meet other lottie holders who may have ideas of whats best to grow.
2. It will show you what hard work is ahead of you.
3. You will see exactly whats been planted where, so you get an idea of crop rotation.
4. You might, as said, find some goodies hiding in the wilderness.
5. You might want to keep bushes or plants untouched, instead of getting hacked to death.
;D ;D ;D

I would love to get stuck in there now, but i'm recovering from a back operation, but will have the all clear in about 6 weeks! I'm going to ring in two weeks to see if there are any light duties i can do, and if my hubby can help in anyway!
I forgot to say i went down there today, and i don't think there will be any chance of digging up any goodies, there was a nice apple tree though! ;D
:-X
i,ve had my plot for a year now and just getting first harvest off it all the hard work paying off good luck and good growing.
