Title: sprouts again
Post by: bedrockdave on August 17, 2009, 21:28:59
my sprouts aren't doing a lot and was wondering , if I cut off the tops (which I prefer to the sprouts) will more growth go into the actual sprouts or will it stop them growing altogether

This was the theory always offered by the "old and bold" for many years.
It seems that research reveals that there is no benefit to the growing sprouts.

I still do it, chiefly because removing the "cabbage"(and most of the  leaves) seems to reduce the number of whitefly flocking to my brussels patch

Some of mine such as Trafalgar are not doing much but they are for harvesting Feb-Apr.  My Maximus are almost ready for harvesting.  They can be harvested from Sep-Dec.
