Title: Would they germinate now???
Post by: thifasmom on August 16, 2009, 10:28:06
Last autumn i sowed some autumn king carrots, some were left to go to seed out of interest for my daughters to see the flowers.

a couple of the flower heads are packed with dry ripe seed which i plan to harvest for use next year.

my sowings of the same variety a week before last haven't germinated bar one and i was wondering, if i sow some of the fresh seed from the seedheads now would they germinate ???

I think they would germinate OK but what you would get in the way of a crop at this time of the year I don't know but it is certainly worth a try.

Who knows what the weather has in store for us for the remainder of the year.

Go for it.

In fact why not sow half now and keep the other half for sowing next year and see how you go on.
