Wow, Tim, very impressive  :o! We will continue to use the "wrote the variety down on a piece of paper somewhere and then lost it method" for our allotment, however.  :'(

I'm sure Tim will be along shortly, but it looks like the work of a good ol' Brother label printer to me.

Beat me to it! The file was too large to print before.

I got one in Lidl last year for a tenner!  Hubby has commandeered it for marking files at work, though.

I bought one in Lidls too its been used all over the house....the down side is that the replacement labels are expensive.
Does anyone know the best place to get cheap labels?
Staples sell the clear ones ..at £11.00 and the white labels at around £15.00 :o
I have been holding off buying them at Staples.

I'm sure we got some cheaper than that on Ebay, but can't remember the exact price.

The tape I've bought from eBay (9mm, black on white & black on clear) is usually around £9 including P&P. I've occasionally picked it up cheaper, but any bargains listed tend to be snaffled up quickly. ;)

I've been using my Lidl model for three seasons now and this year found I only had to make a few labels. As they last for years I only have to make labels for new varieties. I keep the old ones in alphabetical order in a flat box which makes it easier in January when I normally start some seeds.

I find eBay good for tapes, but even better is asking for a tape as a stocking filler at Christmas  ;).

Good point about re-using the labels. I shall have to hire it out to the Grandchildren to claw back some cash!!

If you're ever tempted to buy the mains adapter, don't. A cheaper 'universal mains transformer' (from Maplin, Argos, Amazon etc) will set you back about £7-10 and you'll be able to use it with other gadgets. ;)

I'm sure that one of the many that we have will fit!

I found the labels become unstuck and you end up with a row of blank labels...

I'm going to go and buy several long lengths of very thin strips, paint them white and write on them with marker pen.  I won't loose so many then... especially if they're a foot long...

Clear sellotape made them last longer but try to angle them away from the sun.  Or a bit of laquer I imagine will help it be a bit more waterproof!

Sorry, I've not been around much due to trying to evict my neighbour...

Can't agree with Tim N. As I've already said I am still using labels from three seasons ago - if anything the labels are difficult to remove if I want to re-use the plant label itself (if you know what I mean!). The print hasn't even faded either. I use brother TZ-231 (black on white) tapes 12mm.
