Post by: betula on August 14, 2009, 10:48:43
I love Rocket.Sadly mine is now just a lot of pretty white flowers.I have decided to leave them as they are pretty. ;D

I have not been able to do that much on the lottie since June as I have been poorly but I am now raring to go and can't wait to get rid of all those weeds. ;D

One of my plot neighbours gave me some Rocket to try, it was so strong that it made my tongue burn for about 5 minutes.

We have tried Rocket the last two years. It grows OK  but we then have a real problem, possibly with some kind of beetle, which eats multiple tiny holes in the leaves making them vitually unedible. We did try a general bug spray once but it had little effect.

Those pre-sown £ signs that I picked up at Malvern/NEC were great for that...  :)

I have had the flea beetle and the bolting. Now I have the flowers,I was delighted to see the bees all buzzing around them yesterday.

The taste is hot but to my mind it beats lettuce on a sandwich Great in a bowl of salad. ;D

I've been disappointed with my Dobies Rocket seeds this year, they have bolted quickly. Previously I'd grown from seeds free with a Sunday paper, described as wild rocket, which didn't seed till right at the end of their second summer. So yesterday I went to the Wilko's seed sale, wild rocket, 75% off!  Made my day.

Eat the flowers, they're delicious -like rocket but sweeter. I've converted lots of my kids' friends to eating it through munching on the flowers.

I let mine run to seed last year or the year before and this year I had a patch about 2 metres square of self seeded rocket! Lovely. And I eat it regardless of the flea beetle holes...
