Post by: Duke Ellington on August 12, 2009, 09:21:51
What else can be done with runner beans other than boil, steam or freeze them ??
I am getting swamped with them and people are shouting here comes the bean lady when they see me!! Even the family dont seem happy to have them anymore. :'(

I know the neighbours are avoiding me too. Next door says they still have some of last years in the freezer.

I did make a curry whith them once, it was alright but nothing to shout about.

Mum used to cut them in to squares, cook them then put a vinegret on them whilst still hot, then serve them cold with salad. That was all right too.

They look quite pretty served as a mix with little cubes of carrots.

Bean fritters perhaps. Soup.

It is like this every year PSB, Courgettes and then  beans.

Picked several pounds of tomatoes yesterday too and offered some to another allotment holder who was looking at his 24 huge, perfect cabbages, saying the glut was my fault because I gave him the plants.
