My ponds (which are old plastic sand pits, so they aren't very big) were set up in the summer 2007
- within hours pond skaters had found them
- and within days the frogs had found them
- by the winter of 2007 a dip showed we also had rat tail maggots (but not any more) and different mayfly nymphs along with a wide variety of worm/ worm like creatures.
- last year water snails were seen
- and this spring we finally got frog spawn so we ended up with tadpoles of which there are still some and some have turned into froglets.
- this spring we also found peacockle mussels.
- a few days ago i was tidying one of them and found freshwater shrimp.
so what's in yours.
PS i would love to get newts, some water beetles, aquatic spiders and some dragon/ damsen fly nymphs would be great. my neighbour's pond is a little bit bigger in diameter and much deeper and there are dragonflies visiting his pond. so maybe one day, i'll see them visit mine.
I'm very envious. I started digging a pond on my plot but as I'm going to be giving the plot up, it's been abandonded.
I found this looking for how to attract dragonflies:

thanks for the link i have lots of their suggestions but i could also tweak some of what i have and add some of their ideas as well.
why are you giving up your plot?
