Title: Rhubarb too big for its boots!
Post by: gardening jan on August 09, 2009, 10:52:52
My rhubarb has been very successful this season and has outgrown is position in my back garden. I want to transfer it to the allotment, is it a good time now its finished growing? should I prepare the new position with fertiliser first? any advice appreciated as I would hate to loose it by doing something stupid!!

Wait till its died back, say late Octover or November. After that, the sooner the better so it has time to re-establish the roots before spring. Mine was massive, but it keeps getting hammered by waterlogging and flooding, and it was looking pretty miserable again a month ago. It's recovering now but I need to get it into a raised bed.
