Title: Freezing French Beans
Post by: tiger47 on August 09, 2009, 09:15:53
Hi folks , i have a glut of french beans so i need to freeze some as i cant keep eating them for breakfast dinner and tea, i've also given loads away however i would like to get some frozen down for the lean periods !

Whats the best way to freeze them, do i blanch them first ? tried this before and they didn't freeze well, thinking of washing and drying them , then just bunging in the freezer as is .

Many thanks -Andy

I think it was Saddad who said they don't blanch anything. I've picked 41/2lbs runner beans since Wednesday & I will be doing the same.

Yep that was lazy me.. They don't even get washed... climbers rarely drag the beans through the mud.. if they are the pencil pod type just put them in a freezer tray and freeze... they'll get boiled when you eat them...  :)

I don't consider it being lazy, preserving (get it) energy for something else. I'm good at that.

I cannot get over the blanching thing ~ and will continue to do it. However I do use my steamer to do it. Its so much easier to steam.
