After my recent bargains http://www.allotments4all.co.uk/smf/index.php/topic,54088.0.html i want to take lots of cutting (as i'm trimming them up anyway), especially the lavender.
Many books/forums say how to take the cutting and to use rooting powder.
How do you encourage your cuttings for plants and herbs?
1.Water
2.rooting powder and Potting up
3.potting up without rooting powder
4.other

I've just done some lavender and rosemary cuttings following this

Hardwood cuttings do best if struck outside in the soil. Make a slit in the ground with a spade and shove them in. No need to waste money with rooting powder, the modern stuff is no good anyway.

That was one of the sites i was refuring too about using rooting powder, the guy on gardeners world says he does not use it.

What do you use for your soft/green cuttings?

For softwood cuttings I would use a pot with sharp sand or sand /compost mix, in the greenhouse or polytunnel.
I would classify lavender cuttings as hardwood, preferably taken as heel cuttings.
